Google Play to accept gambling apps starting next month

Gambling apps are set to become available through Google Play in the UK and some other markets later this year.

The marketplace that serves millions of Android users worldwide is to end its restrictions in the UK, France and Ireland according to an email sent out to gambling operators.

Previously, gaming sites have only been able to offer their mobile app via their own or third-party channels.

Google plans to begin distributing gambling apps in August. Android devices account for nearly 50% of the market share across handheld devices in the U.K.

Can Trackers be placed into App downloads, I expect not. So the aim is still to drive them to the site for signup, then let them download the app on their own?

AFAIK some places do track apps.. however those downloaded directly from their site, not sure how it would work with google play

My understanding - though it may have changed - is that cookie based tracking works fine for registrations through Android apps. It is just iOS where tracking is a massive pain.

Agree with TheGooner. This will certainly remove the middleman (affiliates / webmasters). With such a huge market share just in the UK gaming operators can get more players to sign-up directly rather than through affiliates. This will have the potential for a huge negative impact on webmasters. Great news for the gaming providers but not the affiliates.

I think this is a real opportunity for the savvy affiliate.

It's potentially a huge source of traffic that's just waiting to be tapped.
