Google redirecting all traffic to https

Has anyone else noticed that Google has started redirect traffic to an https?

From what I could tell, they first rolled this out as a test in chrome browsers in some markets.

Also originally, they only did this for logged in account and provided the opportunity and method for changing this.

As of today I noticed it was happening to me logged in or otherwise in IE.

I have read a few scattered posts that it appears to have been rolled out completely and they removed the method of opting out of this "feature".

I know many may say this is good etc etc etc.... but so is choice.

I wonder how many days it will take for Microsoft to get a page up welcoming new searchers....just like they did when the news broke about the privacy changes at gmail.

Does this mean less security?

I have read a few pages here and there where it might break plugins...

I figure there may or may not be some backlash for this, and if so they will likely state they took this action to make searching more secure.

MY question for them would be, "You mean our searches were NOT secure before this?" possibly followed up by, "Why didn't you tell us?"

Reg. Bing I would be surprised if that means people will start using it more... People want results, which Google does deliver - It's only webmasters that are annoyed about the secure search traffic turning up as not provided

But it was webmasters and the popularity of the toolbar pr that helped make Goole what it is, since webmasters helped push the brand.

Yes google was smart enough to closely pay attention to webmasters and did develop a good product, but I still think that webmaster helped drive the brand to the heights it was able to reach in the early days.

Those were the early days of seo and webmaster forums also, and the aand most popular discussions were about google, and the reason they were about google was because of toolbar pr.

And once webmasters discovered that it could be manipulated, it was talked about even more, pushing the brand even further. And although many admit the toolbar pr doesn't have the same effect or affect it once did, they still do not get rid of it, and are sure to update the stupid little green bar once in a while because to this day it drives thousands of posts on forums and blogs each time they do.

And like we see happening often with casino brands, they are forgetting their roots.

I noticed a marked increase in the 'secure search' traffic recently and was wondering why - guess that answers it.

Do you mean that the Google search page is redirecting to https://google.com or that it is redirected the traffic from its search results to https://yourdomain.com?

I have noticed a few days ago if I started going on one of my sites on my mobile it keeps flagging that the security certificate is not trusted even though none of the site resides on https and it hasnt got an SSL cert either.

I see this as a problem as I dont want to pay for an SSL and my site doesnt need one anyway yet Im sure this warning will put off a good percentage of users who dont realy understand what is going on as they will just see 'unsecured' or 'untrusted' and be scared away from my site

Yes http://www.google.com is redirecting all of it's searches and results pages through https://www.goggle.com now.

So if its just Google results, any ideas why my site has started flagging an untrusted certificate even though it isnt using one and none of the links are to https. Just seemd like it could be this causing it as this thread has appeared at a similar time.

while that did help, I think it was more Google had a better search algo than the yahoo's, infoseeks. etc. searchers migrated to Google and webmasters went to where the traffic was.

Definately agree they have abandoned their roots but your boy Bill has to, indicating a few times he'd like unlimited H1 Visas, sighting he can't get any good American talent. Imo he wants to get foreigners in here so he can fuk them on the pay.

I think in the beginning that Google's algo was no better than anyone else's, but they did work on it BECAUSE the webmaster community as well as searchers demanded it. And for many years they did have the best algo, whether they do now is highly debated from both sides.

I do not completely agree with Bill's ideas on the visa's exactly, and I think that is based upon the fact that the pool of talented engineer's is much larger in some countries than it is currenlty here, and not sure what the solution to that could be. We do in fact have good schools, but they are not being utilized as well today as they were years ago.

I do not necessarily think that Bing is quite ready to step in and take the market share froim Google and provide quite the service that they do, but it is quite an opportunity for them to gain some share from this.

They could use some improvement in their indexing and algo, but the kind of moves Google keeps making with less and less thought to their user's and more focus on the dollars could very well continue to erode that market share they do have.
