Default Google searches for "poker" and "online poker" reach lowest levels ever

This is even more telling than the dropping WSOP numbers ...

Interesting - thanks for sharing. This is surprising especially since all the recent developments of legalizing online gambling in the US.

It is expected. Remember how a lot of the poker play was on tv before in the States. Now that it's gone, less people encounter it = less people search for it. This could be one of the reasons. Another reason is the closing of the US market. As big as Europe is, poker doesn't run in Europeans veins as much as in the States.

Or maybe people just got tired of being cheated and scammed on massive scale?
One can go to pokerscout and see how few people in the US are playing these days, it's ridiculous, but the industry brought it on itself...

I think more players lost money due to the bullshit the US Government dished out to the payment processors then they lost at the poker rooms themselves.....(not counting legit losses at the tables)

The losses racked up by the rogue rooms after that all started just made it worse.

people could be going direct to ultimate poker. The def do not have much market share with one state but many people may be typing it in direct. I wonder how the number of direct visitors to ultimate corolates to those numbers in the article.

The poker industry struggles because lots of governments put more strict laws for poker and gambling in general. The US is a huge market so after opening again it will create a buzz and a new flow of players.
Interesting that other gambling industries such as casino are quite stable and the casino is more popular than poker on Google at the moment.
