Lightbulb GPWA Conference at Affiliate Summit 2009 in Las Vegas January 14th

I'm very pleased to announce we will be holding a GPWA conference in Las Vegas in conjunction with Affiliate Summit West on January 14th.

And as part of the GPWA conference the day before, on Tuesday January 13th, we will be hosting an all-day networking center with food and beverages for GPWA members and other affiliates at the Affiliate Summit West conference being held at the RIO from January 11th to January 13th.

See our separate announcement about Affiliate Summit West and the discounts available to GPWA members who would like to attend that event. Affiliate Summit events are much larger than the pure iGaming focused affiliate conferences and I highly recommend them. If you would like to see what I had to say about the last Affiliate Summit, view the thread Affiliate Summit a great experience.

If your're looking for an excuse to visit Las Vegas, this is it.

The GPWA conference will begin with registration at 9am on January 13th. We have an absolutely fabulous speaker and session line-up. Definitely an event not to be missed. And in the evening after the sessions are done we'll be having a party at the top of the stratosphere with breathtaking views of Las Vegas.

Currently confirmed speakers include Attorney Clarke Walton covering iGaming affiliate legal issues, Greg Powell on how to build an online community without relying on a forum, J.Todd and Anthony Telesca of the APCW sharing their perspective on how to inexpensively and effectively use video on the web, Marc Powell of Suited Pockets reviewing online gaming affiliate marketing basics and me on how to make money as an affiliate using social media. And we have several additional exciting sessions that are nearly finalized that will be announced soon.

For more information including complete session descriptions and speaker biographies visit GPWAconference.com/LasVegas2009.

Please RSVP on the event page on Facebook to let us know if you will be able to attend.

I'd like to put in a special note of thanks to the folks at CanAffco who have run the CanAffco Affiliate Boot Camp events for their help with this event and also to Shawn and Missy who put on the Affiliate Summit event for their support of our working together with them in a cooperative fashion.

I was at ASW08 and thought to myself that a GPWA event would compliment the summit wonderfully. I am going to attend for sure! I'm glad I planned on staying a couple of extra days anyway. See you there.

    Hi all,

How suitable would a conference like this be for an European targeting affiliate program?
Not sure I will be able to make it over there, since we are in the midst of choosing software vendor for our affiliate program.

But good to know for future reference.

    Cheers

The last GPWA conference at the G2E was excellent! I'm jealous that I can't make it out there for this one .

Thanks for the invite but since I am spending new years even in Vegas and then heading to London at the end of Jan I just cannot see being able to make this as well. But never say never I am known to do a spur of the moment trip so don't be surprised if I show up

I'm pleased to announce we have finalized the session line-up for the GPWA conference at the Stratosphere in Las Vegas on January 14th. We have seven very informative presentations arranged. Between the sessions, the party, and the networking with fellow-affiliates, this is going to be a great event!

Legal Issues for Online Gaming Affiliates
    Clarke Walton, Attorney at Law

As an attorney who specializes in website legal issues, lives in Las Vegas, and operates a GPWA approved portal website (www.allvegaspoker.com) Clarke brings a rare perspective to the legal issues that matter to online gaming affiliates based in the United States. Hear first hand his perspective on the legality of promoting online gaming, search engine trademark and copyright law, domain name law and other important legal matters.

Building an online community without using a Forum
Greg Powell, Online Poker Industry Expert

In all of affiliate marketing, but especially in the gaming vertical, the power of leading an online community has proven crucial. Many successful webmasters attribute their customer loyalty to the comradery and trust built through personal interaction on their sites. However, for new webmasters building an active forum can be very difficult. This session will explore the ways that webmasters can build that same following without using a traditional forum.

An Introduction to Online Gaming Affiliate Marketing
    Marc Powell, Owner, SuitedPockets.net

Join Marc as he explains how working as an affiliate for online poker, casino, bingo and other gaming sites differs from retail affiliate marketing. Compensation rates, payment options, and expectations of gaming operators will all be addressed, as well as using community forums as a tool to successful affiliate marketing in this industry.

Evaluating Affiliate Websites: An Examination of the Syntryx Tools used by Affiliate Programs
James Traynor, Founding Partner, Syntryx Executive Solutions

Learn how affiliate programs evaluate potential affiliates using the real-time, deep-mining capabilities of Syntryx – a powerful tool designed specifically to help programs contact and recruit new pay-for-performance affiliates. This session will show you, as an affiliate, the comprehensive metrics Syntryx uses to assess the power and competitiveness of your websites and the methods used to uncover the affiliate programs you currently work with for competitve analysis.

Driving Traffic Through Smart Domain Strategy
Victor Pitts, Vice President of Sales & Client Services, Moniker

Are domains a part of your traffic strategy? If not, you're missing out on some significant ways to influence branding and drive traffic to your site. This presentation will cover how you can use domains to help define and reposition branding, improve search optimization and search marketing, counter balance search using direct navigation, and offer an easy way to initiate social media marketing and other engagement techniques .

    Using Video on Your Website
    J.Todd, APCW Executive Director
    Anthony Telesca, APCW Auditing Director

Hear J.Todd's unique perspective on how to inexpensively and effectively use video to enhance your web presence. J. Todd covers the theory, techniques, and challenges of video production and explains the benefits of video content. Learn how you can increase your web visibility and brand recognition through online video marketing and distribution, while also providing dynamic, sticky, proprietary content for your web visitors.

Marrying iGaming Affiliate Marketing & Social Networks
Michael Corfman, CEO, Casino City & Executive Director, GPWA

Casino City is placing a big bet on social networking as an important future affiliate revenue stream with the development of its Facebook Places I've Played application. This presentation reveals secret details of Casino City's plans and strategy and provides specific in-depth examples of how the strategy can easily be adopted by any iGaming webmaster or iGaming operator to increase their revenue and profits.
More complete details are available on the conference website at www.gpwaconference.com/LasVegas2009/.

I hope to see many of you there!

I'm trying to work a few things out and make it to this event. Sounds like it will be a more intimate event, but still very informative (not just a big party). Thinking of flying in the morning of the 13th and flying out morning on the 15th... But may be able to extend it one day on either end if there is a benefit to that.

Cost of travel and accommodations in Vegas is really good right now. (By the way, the Affiliate Summit hotel rate is more expensive than direct booking)

I see the main GPWA conference is on the 14th... but there is networking time scheduled on the 13th... What does this include? I'd love to get into the exhibit hall at ASW - but it's a bit too pricey for 1 day.

Woohoo - I'm coming! I'll be in town Jan 12 - 15... RSVPd to the GPWA meeting on the 14th...

Still not sure about forking over $300 just to get into the exhibit hall at Affiliate Summit (I really want to - but that's a bit expensive for the one day I'd want to walk around!)

Thinking of staying at the Encore (they have very affordable rates)... But always interested if someone has a better deal! I'm a sucker for a good deal!

    Matted,

That's really great news that you are going to be able to come to Vegas! It will be really nice to see you there.

It might be worth calling the affiliate summit folks to see if they would cut you any sort of break (beyond the 10% off they are giving all GPWA members) for just one day. Not sure they will, but it can't hurt to ask.

Thanks MIchael - I just may give them a call. I guess they have so many levels of attendance already it would be confusing to add any more!

On another note - the hotel deals in Vegas are CRAZY! I saw rooms at the Paris for as little as $70/night. I booked the Wynn for $129/night (I had to call and ask twice for a special rate). Caesars was going for $100. Rio was actually the most expensive of the lot for that week in January.

    Hey Matt,
Hotwire had RIO for like $40/night during that week, not Saturday though. It's the 'Near Strip West' with a "S" suite icon. You can't go wrong with the Wynn, I booked their new Encore for the same price. Can't wait! I wouldn't fork out hundreds of dollars for the exhibit hall for one day. They do have contests on their website for free passes though, you may get lucky. See you there.

The GPWA conference in Las Vegas is just a week away now. I'm looking forward to some really great session on Wednesday, January 14th.

The conference website was updated earlier today to show the times for all of the sessions. And I'm pleased to announce the conference now includes a complementary buffet lunch.

I'm also very pleased to announce that Chipleader is the official conference sponsor and CanAffco is the official cocktail party sponsor in the evening.

On Tuesday we've also made final arrangements for the networking room we are hosting at Affiliate Summit West. We'll be offering a free bar and snacks most of the day.

    For final details visit www.gpwaconference.com/LasVegas2009/.

Please RSVP on the event page on Facebook to let us know if you will be able to attend. And if you don't want to use facebook to RSVP you can send me a pm.

    See you there!

Michael - when you say the networking event is at Affiliate Summit, that means I really need to get on the ball and search around for a silver pass? Or is it at the same hotel and stuff, but not inside the event?

    Hey Matt,
There are a few meeting rooms near the exhibit hall that are used by other affiliate programs and networks that use the traffic from the Summit to get some attention. I'm quite confident that the GPWA is just using one of those meeting rooms near the area where the ASW09 is taking place.
