Arrow GPWA Forum Software Upgrade and Planned Outage

This Saturday, January 15, starting at 7-8 am EST, we will begin the migration of the GPWA forums from vBulletin version 3.7 to vBulletin version 4.0.

This is a major upgrade and, based on the test migration we performed, we anticipate it will take a minimum of eight hours to complete. We are performing the upgrade on Saturday since use of the GPWA forums is lower on weekend days and so performing the upgrade then will minimize the disruption to our members.

The approach we are taking means that during the migration itself the forums will be usable on a read-only basis so it should still be possible to browse the forums during the migration process.

Sounds like a ton of fun on a Saturday! I remember when I went from 3.x.x to 4.0 what a great time I had. Now that vB is up to 4.1.1 the software has really stabilized and many bugs have been squashed. The admin panel is the same as 3.x but the functionality of the forums is much better.

minimum of eight hours to complete, that is a long time. No idea what the software is doing. Be quicker transferring each page manually, haha.

Software migration is always a pain and most of the time there are unexpected delays.

I remember some 5 years or so back when I was still working in sportsbetting we had this huge software migration that was scheduled to take about 10 hours.

Guess what? In fact it took us all of 16 hours and we really had to do some of the stuff manually

The GPWA forum migration will begin shortly. During approximately the first half-hour of the migration the forums will not be available at all. After approximately the first half-hour the forums will be available again, but just in read-only mode, until the migration has been completed.

The migration is now beginning. The forum will not be available for posting until the migration is completed, which will be after 6pm Eastern Time assuming no significant issues arise.

Sorry to be a "sour puss" - but I hate it.

Why do people have to "fix" things that aren't broken?
And why do many think changing things is always an improvement?

Anyone tried Windows 7 or Office 2010...? YUK!
I'm sticking to XP and Office 2003!

I like it very much, great work!

P.S. seems that the "Thank You" count has been lost.

Change is good. lol I like it and it may encourage me to upgrade my forum by the Spring.

When I clicked reply it quoted the post above me so I'll have to figure that out, but other than that it seems to be working fine.

In Chrome, Reply did quote the person above... then I noticed a second page of threads... so I went there instead of replying. Now I can't reply using the reply button (using Quick Reply instead).

Let me know how it goes.... for many reasons I haven't upgraded AGD to 4.x, but never rule anything out entirely

    Good work GPWA team!

Yep, the Reply feature is not working properly and you may also want to edit the [What's Going On] template text to remove or shorten the duplicate phrase (Registered users currently logged in

I also noticed that when you go to [Edit] your post it just hangs up and you have to refresh. I think I'm gonna postpone the upgrade till next Fall to give them more time to debug as I definately don't have the patience to deal with it these days. lol

I wanted to add that it's to bad we lost our [Thanks/Thanked] stats.

I think it would be helpful for the webmasters if you write down the browsers you're using since there lies sadly a problem these days.
