Default Greece to offer online gaming licenses, but levy high taxes

The tax would be 35% of gross gaming revenue.

That is ... that is quite high.

That's ridiculous. They used to (or still do) tax poker players on a daily basis and the money is automatically removed from their poker accounts. As a result greek players have to register for big future tournaments if they hit a win in order to reduce their tax liabilities.

I guess they need to recover their debt somehow.

They are trying to get the most out of it and at the same time protect OPAP (33% of which belongs to the private company - emma delta- since 2013).

As I am Greek and I follow the whole regulation procedure, all in all the law is very unfair.
The tax is extremely high but there is no company that pays the real amount of tax that it should be paid.
Anyway, about the Greek gambling law the discussion is very long and never ending

That is partially correct as the government tries to find another taxes for avoiding/replacing the taxation to middle class
The situation is that government "invents" taxes
