Question Has Google indexed videos on any of your sites?

In July Google announced a new Search Console Video Indexing Report. You can see the announcement Google made here:

Google Search Central: Announcing the new Search Console video index report

You can help Google find videos on your site through the use of special sitemap tags that provide information about videos on your site.

Google Search Central: Video sitemaps and alternatives

For this week’s poll I ask if you have videos on any of your sites. And, if you do, I ask if Google is aware of the presence of videos on your site and reports their presence in the new Search Console report and if you publish information about videos using the special video sitemap tags.

One site where we host videos is the APCW.org website, and for that website Google reports it has indexed 546 videos and that it knows about an additional 15 videos that are not current indexed, mostly because due to the videos not yet being processed.

I only recently discovered video sitemap tags, so we are beginning to use them, and I expect we will eventually be as good about including all videos in sitemaps the same way we we are good about including the pages on our sites n sitemaps.

    Hi MichaelCorfman,

This isn't something we've got round to yet, but it is good to know about. Out of interest, where are you hosting your videos? We've had not end of problems with YouTube with "random" users submitting complaints that the content is inappropriate. Ultimately had to move to DailyMotion.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

We have hosted all new videos on our own servers for a while now. We do still generally host them on YouTube so that they are visible within that ecosystem, but we have had problems with videos being removed and channels closed there, so we have chosen to treat YouTube as a secondary rather than as a primary distribution channel.

Thanks for coming back to me Michael. That's really interesting to hear. How are you finding server loads with hosting your own videos?

I'm asking because like you, I've had no end of problems with YouTube. Even our charity BetBlocker has recently had it's channel shut down. Presumably because we had a video demonstrating how our Parental Controls (including porn blocker) functioned. We'd gone to great pain to ensure anything 'obscene' was entirely obscured, but apparently that wasn't enough. We had to switch to Daily Motion, who closed our account almost immediately but unlike YT, when we appealed they responded within 2 hours saying 'it's clear you're not trying to distribute anything obscene, this was our error, your account's reopened'.

I'd like to consider hosting our own videos, but I'd always heard this came with a very heavy server load.
