Question Have you created a new Facebook timeline fan page?

Facebook recently announced that all fan pages will be converted to the new timeline format on March 30th. You can see a good introduction to the changes here: Facebook Timeline for Business Pages Ė 21 Key Points To Know.

So, I thought this would be a good week to ask if you have a Facebook fan page, and if you do, have you converted it to the new timeline format yet? Besides answering the poll question, be sure to share your thoughts about the new format, and any tricks or tips you might suggest to the rest of us.

Personally, over the last couple of days, I've worked on creating a fan page for the APCW in the new timeline format. You can see it here: www.facebook.com/TheAPCW. If you like what we've done on that page, fan page likes for the APCW are most welcome.

Over the rest of this week I plan to update the other fan pages under my control, including the GPWA fan page.

Personnaly I am not a fan of the timeline page. I would see the old style I think it is easier to read and understand.

I'm not a fan of the timeline either. Looks rather messy in my opinion.

Yes, certainly one can have a negative opinion about the timeline fan page structure and format, and certainly there are many others that share your opinion. However, Facebook does not allow one to keep the old format. As I understand the situation, effective March 30th the new format goes into effect for all fan pages whether one likes is or not. So, to me it feels like even if one does not like the new format, it still makes sense to try to do the best one can within the new framework.

Personally, I think there are pluses and minuses to the new format, and that it makes sense to make changes to optimize ones fan page within the choices available. Also, I have observed much higher engagement figures in a few cases where I have tried to make improvements based on the new format.

Our fan page isn't updated yet but since I hear that everyone, every where is going to be forced to have the new timeline as of March 30th, it doesn't make much difference, does it?

We're currently adding a timeline at the moment, it needs some work with the images and wording but should be 100% finished in the next few days - check it out and give us a like http://www.facebook.com/castlecasino

Edit - When I say timeline, I don't just mean updating the Facebook format, I mean adding in key events from the past as milestones.

Well, I think it does, which is a good part of why I posed the question of whether folks had converted their pages yet. The reason I feel it matters is that some of the new features, such as the cover image on a timeline page require that you provide one, or they are omitted from the page. So, if you just let the conversion take place without providing some of the new information allowed, you get a page in the new format that is a victim of whatever backward steps you view the new format has without benefiting from the improvements is allows you to make.

Dave, I think you've done a good job. One comment, though, which is the guidelines published by Facebook specifically disallow a calls to action or references to facebook user interface elements, including the like button. You can see the rules here: www.facebook.com/help/?faq=276329115767498. It is, of course, your decision about how much attention you pay to the rules.

Thanks Michael for the compliments and recommendations.

I was made aware of this by a new colleague in the marketing team (who will shortly be joining the forums!) a few days ago, we're working on a good substitute which will also be rolled out shortly. I very much doubt Facebook will take action with a page as small as ours at the moment, but better safe than sorry!

Thanks for your input Michael. In general I need to make a bit more effort with our Facebook page and you've given me some impetus

I don't like the timeline as well. I am used to the old interface and will stick to it in the meantime.

You and the rest of the world so it seems The majority of opinions I've heard about it are complaints, but then that's the case almost every time facebook change something. In a few weeks everyone will have gotten used to it.

I agree with you, I hated it at first but now I really like it. Allows a lot more flexibility with fan pages!

I notice that some pages are still on the old version. I thought facebook was forcing people to update?
