Question Have you read Google's new 2025 Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines?

On January 25th Google released a new version of its guidelines for evaluating the quality of the sites included in search results.

    According to Search Engine Land:

This is a routine update to its guidelines document, where the updates primarily focused on spam.

What changed. Google posted the following details in its change log in the document:

    • Updated Page Quality Lowest and Low sections to better align with Google Search Web Spam Policies; added illustrative examples
    • Expanded guidance on assessing minor interpretations and intents for Needs Met ratings and added illustrative examples
    • Minor changes throughout (updated rating ranges, removed outdated examples; fixed typos; updated browser requirements; etc.)

This update also refreshes some language for clarity and provides additional useful examples to help raters.

The guidelines are the instructions given to quality evaluators on how to assess website quality and whether the search results they review meet the needs of Google search users.

Understanding the guidelines can be helpful to affiliates (or to anyone responsible for the content of websites). Google cares about the quality of its search results, and so understanding the factors Google uses to assess quality can provide valuable guidance on what is necessary to be viewed as providing quality content deserving of top positions in search results over the long term.

So, for this week's poll I ask if you have seen the new quality guidelines, and if you have or plan to read them. I also encourage to you share your views on the guidelines and whether or not you have made or plan to make any changes to your sites based on the guidelines.

I haven't read through this yet but Barry Schwartz summarised the changes here, seems that the focus was on spam with 11 additional pages added to the document overall: https://www.seroundtable.com/google-...ted-38794.html

I find that constantly updating information can be distracting from the main tasks. Especially when these recommendations may change over time.

I haven't read it yet. I might eventually, but to be honest, I'll probably just go through a summary this time.
