Help Required - Litespeed Server Issue

I'm no server expert and was hoping to pick the brains of those members more enlightened than me.

I'm using a decent LiteSpeed shared hosting account and yesterday when I viewed my server information in cPanel I noticed that my Swap service was sitting at 99%. It is at 100% this morning.

I contacted support, and this is their reply:

We have checked and can confirm that the Swap value shown in cPanel does not need to be a cause for concern, as it is a server level virtual memory metric on our shared hosting servers.

For your hosting account, it is more useful to monitor the following metrics under cPanel > Resource Usage, as these reflect your account's actual resource consumption:

CPU Usage
Physical Memory Usage
Entry Processes
Number of Processes
I/O
IOPS

---

I've checked my resource usage and everything is within spec. However it does appear to me that the server may be over-subscribed and that my hosting support is brushing that off.

You can ignore that mostly.

It is just services being offloaded to free more kernel resources for running tasks. Most of what is offloaded are background tasks and having them cached means the kernel or OS can access them faster when they are needed.

The 99% is not an indication of total resources being used by the server.

As the host explained, if your own number of cpu/physical memory especially, starts climbing into very high percents, and stays there consistently, then you might want to dig in to why that is happening and what changed from now to the spike. That is what would indicate you are using more resources then you should for what is allocated, the only thing you can control.

To determine if the virtual server is overloaded in cpu or memory you would really need to see the numbers from the Virtual host itself, or the cpanel numbers as the root user on the server.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease Rick. :tiphat:
