Help With WP Plugin - Google Sitemap - Priorities

Hi I am confused about how to use the priority calculation feature. I had it on "post to calculate the priority" but I do not allow comments because they are all spam. Does anyone know the best way to use the priorities such as 1.0 for home page, 1.0 posts, 1.0 for Minimum post priority?

I will post a screen shot to show the way I have it set up, should I set it up as

.7
.6

or is it best to post 1.0 for the home page, posts, like the way I have it. If anyone has experience with this plug in and can help I would appreciate it.

My recommendation is not to modify anything manually but leave it as auto-calculated. And one more note : It is not guaranteed for Google to care of your settings... Google knows the best about your site

Thank You, that is what i thought originally. The thing is that i post everyday but my homepage remains the same. I want to make sure that the crawlers know to crawl my posts but dont have to crawl tags, categories, ext..

I have the HP set to 1, static pages set to 9 and posts set to 7. It is just my guess on how to set it but it has worked pretty good for me so far.

Of note how you have it set up isn't right. You should only have one page set to 1 and that should be your homepage if that is the most important page on your site.

thanks @ultimatepokerbonus, i just reset it. How about the categories and tags, are those on 7 too? This is how I reset it.

I really do not think G is honoring this data much, if at all. I do recall the function that this plugin is adding. The priority tag within your sitemap should look something like this: <priority>0.8</priority>

However, according to sitemaps.org, submitting priority levels in your sitemap are not necessarily going to get more pages crawled or indexed higher in the search engines. It merely represents to the search engine crawlers which pages you deem most important, therefore when choosing one of two pages to crawl, the search engines will choose the one with the higher priority level over the other.

It is most useful for new sites to let the spider know where to start crawling. Another explanation I have heard is that it does nothing for ranking, but if the spider has only a limited amount of time to crawl a site, it may chose a page with a higher priority before it leaves the domain.

Personally... I would leave G in the dark about this, but I am almost positive it doesn't matter much one way or the other.

Personally I keep those low. I would use .3 or .2 for categories, tags and achives. Also I do not put those 3 in my sitemap.

Agree with the above also, google probably does not care alot about the priority you give them but it is an option so why not use it? Make your site as friendly and full of information for the crawlers.

thank you guys, I have to change my differently because I make posts a lot more than pages. Also I don't change my homepage much. I see homepages on wordpress used differently. Some people use a static page and others use a last post as their homepage. I use a static page, which i dont change much.
