Default How do you deal with Geo targeting?

I just read this post about geo targeting.

I think we are all interested in geotargeting and we all have a level of WordPress programming knowledge.
However Geotargeting still feels like a mystery to me. I really wonder how people do it.
Even some WP plugings I checked seemed too complicated or even bugged.

    So my question is
How do you deal with geographical targeting?
    1. Only focus on one country (UK for example)
    2. Your developer handles everything.
    3. Have a programmer create a custom script for your site and you integrate it to the site.
    4. You create the script.
    5. Use a WP plug-in.
    6. Ignore geo-targeting.
    7. Some other approach.

It would be also helpful to know your level of programing skills.

PS: I tried to make this post a poll but I failed. Are there any limitations?

I ignore geo-targeting and put a line of flags on the site that the visitors can click on.

First off, I'm not a fan of wordpress. So I'm going to answer this from a general website perspective...

We normally focus on a specific country (mainly the UK as that's where we're based). So that's the easiest way of dealing with it. Job done.

We're currently working on some new non-UK focussed (or not-quite-so-uk focussed) sites which should get traffic from elsewhere. Which has caused a dilemma.

From my perspective there are a few things to consider:

    1. Do you geotarget the content on the page? If so, there are obviously cacheing issues with this.

    2. Do you geotarget by country, or just a select few core ones? (eg: UK v Europe v Canada v Australia v USA v ROW)

    3. If you geotarget content are you changing what's shown entirely (ie: different tables for each country you target) or are you reordering the table / using icons to show if a casino is or isn't OK for the user.

    4. Do you show the same content to everyone, but have specific pages for certain countries with links/banners etc.. to them?

I actually don't know what we're going to do yet, so be curious to hear what everyone else is doing.

From a technical perspective though we'd just use php for any mods we do.

Very interesting replies. They show that there many different approaches depending on the specific site.
Very often we tend to believe there is only one "right way" to do things, but this is not true.

We developed a plugin for geotargeting in WordPress . You can check it on geotargetingwp.com/demos/casino . The usage is pretty simple, you can use shortcodes or edit the template files with the php functions included.
Imo and for what I heard from my clients, showing the right casino to people increase commissions a lot. What's the whole point of optimization if you simple show a flag as suggested above?

I have different bonuses for some casinos, i enter them via country codes so they show for the right ones, also some casinos I have country specific links so when one is clicked the geo directs to the one i want.
