For many affiliates organic search traffic is an important key to their success. But generating search traffic is complicated, and its not getting any easier. And there is definitely turmoil related to the introduction of AI.
Here are a couple articles I have read recently on the topic:
New data: Google AI Overviews are hurting click-through rates
Google organic and paid CTRs hit new lows: Report
So, for this week's poll I ask how your organic search traffic in the past month compares with your organic search traffic from a year ago.
In addition to voting in the poll, I invite you to share how that compares with changes in your traffic from other sources and whether organic traffic fared better or worse than other traffic sources.
As an example, Google Analytics data for the GPWA website shows the following:
Direct Traffic (top traffic source a year ago): Up 46.1% versus a year ago and now 43% of traffic
Organic Search Traffic (2nd traffic source a year ago: Down 25.1% versus a year ago, and now 22% of traffic
Referral Traffic (3rd traffic source a year ago): Up 238.1% versus a year ago and now 35% of traffic, overtaking organic search traffic
The GPWAtimes.org website, which has always relied more on referral traffic, showed an even larger decrease in organic traffic:
Referral Traffic (top traffic source a year ago): Up 201.5% versus a year ago and now 69% of traffic
Direct Traffic (2nd traffic source a year ago): Up 53.9% versus a year ago and now 25% of traffic
Organic Search Traffic (3rd traffic source a year ago): Down 35.4% versus a year ago, and now only 6% of traffic
The bottom line is that, for the GPWA, organic traffic is now in third place across the board. Fortunately for the GPWA, overall traffic increased nicely in the past year in spite of significant reductions in organic search traffic.
