Question How frequently do you install new smartphone apps?

The world of smartphones is a world of apps. So I figured it was about time to have a weekly poll focused on apps.

Smartphone users can range all the way from never installing any new apps themselves (after all, smartphones typically come with many dozens of apps pre-installed) to loading new apps daily (perhaps you try out and review gaming apps on your smart phone so you can write about them, or just because you are a new game junkie).

Besides answering the poll about how often you install new apps, please share some information about your use of apps in a post.

What are your favorite apps, and why. Have you ever built an app yourself? If so, tell us about it. If you've never built an app of your own, do you think you might in the future?

I'm a fan of auditioning apps. I'll download something that seems interesting. If I don't like it, it's an immediate uninstall. So I've actually downloaded a lot more apps than I actually have on my phone, because the bar to stay on my phone is quite high. Most of my apps deal with customization of my phone, productivity, travel and media consumption. I only have a few games. I also probably have more photo related apps than the norm. I also tend to prefer native apps to HTML5 sites.

Not very often... I only install apps that I really have a use for and don't go around downloading any old gubbins.

I'm even stricter than the baldidiot - I don't have any old gubbins, any new gubbins, in fact any gubbins at all!
But I know what you mean mate - I'm the same way.

I have an email app, maps, camera, an optimiser, and a newspaper app on my main screen.
I have downloaded, Expedia (for travel), Zedge (for ringtones), Livescore (for live scores), and my Voadafone app for bills.

The only other app I have downloaded is WordLens which translates foreign language signs in real time through the camera, and is so damn cool and freaky that I can't bring myself to delete it - even though I've never actually used it on the road.

Basically .. "I don wanna your steenking app!" ...

I don't install apps often and I often delete them if I'm not using them very often.

I have separate folders for the similar apps. All my internet apps are together like facebook, the browsers, etc.
Then I have a folder for everything photo with my instagram, collage apps etc.

I have a folder for gym stuff like my fitness pal, map my run, bodyspace etc.
    A folder for banking stuff.
A folder for games (I have only about 5 games on my phone).
A folder for travel stuff, then just a few random apps like tripview which shows the train timetable, ebay, foxtel etc just sitting around.

The apps I use the most are gmail, facebook and instagram (with the collage app) followed by whatsapp.
The others are used not as much and occasionally I go through and if there is something I haven't used in over a month I just get rid of it.

My phone does have far too many videos and photos on it at the moment which also makes me not install more apps. I really should put them onto a hard drive.

I only download apps that I know I'm going to use like tango, viber, zedge, my children's school app for newsletters and updates, and a few other things.

For me it's not that often now. When I get a new phone or tablet I go crazy adding apps but similar to you guys I end up deleting most as well.

There's 2 main pages of apps/games that I use occasionally on my phone.

Also voted 'Once a month or less'.

I don't really like having too many apps on my phone. What has to be there is Chrome, Facebook, mail app (using myMail atm), Evernote, banking apps, Tapatalk for forums, app for local bus schedule, Spotify. I usually install these from the start and the only stuff I add is 1 or 2 games for killing times, which are uninstalled when I get bored of them. Occasionally I would install something else if I read or heard about a really cool app, but rarely anything stays for too long.

I am surprised with my own behavior on this I must say. I 'polled' a month or less. And, it is wayyy less than that. Next to none. Once I bought my smartphone (iPhone) I imagined myself to be quite 'busy with it' but, I have not been since I bought it. Maybe here and there, but not as much as I thought I would be. But, that is perhaps because I have too many other things to do during the day.

I've started using my 10" tablet as a paperweight and my smartphone as a flashlight. That's what they're good for.

You might be a bit too strict - and possibly need one or two more apps I reckon!

My tablet uses more apps than my phone ...

Samsung tablet set-up with five pages ...
1 page is stocks, tickers, forex and investment portfolio
1 page is sports news, espn, bbc, livescore, eurosport.
1 page is GoonersGuide monitoring - twitter / facebook / previews / read counts / heartbeat, mail and admin options.
1 page is songs, videos, exercise mix, radio and bluetooth apps etc. And a couple of games
1 page is local weather, news

I'd use the tablet 3-5 times a day, even if it's just to flick through the pages and confirm status and note major headlines.

Apps are generally a waste of time, but you got a good point there, the apps you don't have to open to get the information can be good.
