How to Geo-target your traffic.

Doe anyone have an off the shelf solution for geotargeting your traffic. It would be nice to offer different banners or linking codes to users in different countries.

I built a solution a few years ago, but the problem was that it was not the ideal or slickest way of going about it. I would prefer a fully supported solution.

I understand that there are solutions for CMS platforms, but what about the normal dreamweaver built site on a linux server?

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

The ad serving thing we use for some of our sites is geo-targeted and you could probably use it for geo-targeting content as well.

I use SEOmoz GEO Targetting tool for my site.
Though it's too simple, it provides me enough information about my current traffics.

Simmo! mentioned www.maxmind.com on his affiliate forum; this might be worth a look. They have several different databases available (for free and for a fee), and there is also an API you can use.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I made my own script using maxmind database connections. It was just "ok", and required me to build it myself, which means that I will also have to continually test it etc.. and keep up with the mods.

I'll keep looking into a commercial off the shelf solution.

I use OpenX adserver (http://openx.org/). I can show special banners for US visitors, and do not show casinos that do not accept US players. For UK players I show UK banners and so on. It's very usefull tool.

Thank you very much for this information. This is going to be very useful to me as I am building up my website, especially since I have been having a difficult time reaching my target group.
