How To Hire an SEO

There was a post here not to long ago about someone offering SEO services and a slight debate on whether someone should be guaranteeing top positions in google etc...most people know my feelings on that kind of promise....

I think many people can be misinformed when looking for someone who can assess and optimize their site both on and off page and can be easily misguided if they do not understand SEO. Obv if you are looking for someone to do this for you than odds are you dont quite understand all there is to know or at least enough to get you buy. I read this blog faithfully daily and yesterday he wrote an incredible article for people who are thinking or in the process of hiring someone to optimize their sites. Way to many people focus on links, and not enough about the other stuff which in almost all cases is equally or more important.

anyway here is the article and if you are considering hiring someone to do this kind of work for your site(s) I really suggest you read this first, Could mean a world of difference between what kind of person you hire and what you will get for your money

Layman's Guide To Hiring An SEO

Yeah you really need to trust anyone that is going to do SEO for you. I have been working in the business for over seven years.

do you have anyone you recommend? (off page)

Nice link, thanks for sharing! :)

Thanks kaus, an excellent article bringing everything together what is relevant. However, there is one point. Somewhere he says: "You pay for the work" (of the SEO).

If I ever hired an SEO, I would never do that. I would only pay for pre-defined results concerning PR and SERPs.

The most important thing is to ask for his portfolio. If he can supply you with clients and super competitive keywords that he or she has gotten ranked in googles top 10 then that is the only way you can know for sure that he can do what he says he can do.
I know someone who is awesome at offpage seo and has gotten super tough business and music realted keywords ranked high. He hasnt done poker or casino related keywords yet but if anyone can do it he can.
If anyone wants his portfolio just pm me.

Thanks kaus,
I read the article and I agree with almost everything said. One thing I don't think that he stressed enough was original content. Ironically, I feel that original content represents more than half of SEO effort.

Also, in the article it was written:

Dropping links on blogs and forums - any SEO who tells you that good link building includes leaving comments on blogs and forums is a BAD SEO

I don't see a problem leaving links on forums that are relevant to your niche. (GPWA and CAP for example)

Thanks!

Agree with you wager but these links dont hold alot of value. This is teh only forum I use sig links in. I will pop one in the odd time if I want google to come find me but other then that I dont see much value in it. I think he was referring tothe people who do this as a linking strategy. There is another article there that explains a bit of what he means by link building, its called "Why Your Linking Strategy Sucks" its a very good read.
