Default How long does it take for Google to "rank" pages?

    Hi All,

Just wondering about how long it takes on average after pages are published for them to begin ranking for particular SEO phrases. For example, my site's been active for a couple years now, but I just added a whole new section of content (20 pages worth) with a major focus on a particular keyword.

Assuming it was "built correctly" etc. about how long would it take for any of these new pages to begin ranking on Google?

Any feedback or personal experiences would be appreciated - thanks!

    hmm, difficult to say.

I heard google crawls through the net within 3 to 5 days. Therefore it will realize new sections on existing sites in the same timespan. But that's just the google index.

If you mean ranking it depends on what your goal is. If you aim at page 1 for the particular keyword you might have to restructure your whole site accordingly, not just a single section. It also depends on how effective your site ranked with that particular keyword already or if you "introduced" that keyword with that new section.

It's really hard to tell without details. Google is an uncontrollable monster. If you just started working on that keyword it'll probably take quite a while (just like SEO is).

But I'm not an expert, just know a little bit from working with some programmers and marketing people.

I posted something at meister's forum a few days ago. About 60 seconds after I made the forum post, I searched Google for something relevant to the thread and my post was already number one in the serps.

Yes it could take a few minutes to a few days. If you have a blog or post to other blogs I would recommend you link to some of these new pages and google should pick them up pretty quickly. Otherwise if they are link well from your home page I would say 5 days max. But just becuase they are indexed then doesn't mean you will rank well. You should try to establish some links to these pages from outside sites with the anchor text being the keywork you are tageting.

If you submit a sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools it can pick up your post within a few minutes. Whether or not it will rank highly will depend on the sites ratings.

Exactly 1 day 22 hours 6 minutes 23 seconds and 55 milliseconds . All kidding aside it depends on how often you update your site which will determine the Google crawl rate on your website. For example most of my posts are crawled within a minute I have published them, but it take up to an hour or two to rank where they should.

If your new pages are on a very competitive keyword/s they will be ranked alright, but perhaps on the 15th - 20th page. Search with their title and your site URL to see if that page comes up as indexed.

If it isn't you can always try to speed things up using Google Webmaster Tools and get on the Fetch as Googlebot section and submit manually the pages.

The time Google takes to crawl webpages depend on a lot of aspects, including the website structure, external links, internal links, sitemaps, etc. I recommend you to register an account in www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ and submit your website sitemap there. That will help you rank faster and tell Google Bot to crawl your webpages, like "xecutable" said above. You should also point external links to that new web adress, as Google Bot will crawl the content, see the new links, and follow them, founding and crawling your new website.

    Cheers

It all depends on the competition, I have one site (non gambling) that I added a new post and in the next day the post was already ranking.

Keywords ranking depend on many factor.
1- On-page SEO change of the site( Included all those activities make site search engine friendly)
2- Present Condition of site ( having factors, of Domain age, domain authority, page authority.)
3- Number of back-links, quality of Back-links, Targeted keywords.
4- Competitions of targeted keywords, and density of that keywords in content.
5- Quality of content of site and proximity, prominence of keywords.

    Thanks
Please ask me if any question related to my explanations.

don't forget if you have a blog to have a decent ping list so when new content is published the search engines get notified straight away, then the more authority you have the quicker you normally get ranked

I found that my site was fully indexed within 1 week but it did not start getting traffic for another 6 months. Google takes into account the age of the domain and so it is best to get it indexed as soon as possible (even if your site is not finalized). This warms up the domain and will mean that you get traffic a little earlier. Also, its worth submitting your XML sitemap to Google Webmaster tools and some of the RSS pinging services. My website went live about a week ago and already I have all the URL's indexed but there no rankings/traffic yet.....it does take some time.

For more established sites that regularly produce content, I've now found over the last few months that the more often one publishes, the more often Google will crawl....kind of like a cycle. Talk about motivation
