Default How long is the longest you have ever stayed in bed in one stretch?

Last week we looked at how long folks had managed to stay up and out of bed. After someone responded almost 5 days, Renee asked "How many days did you sleep after that?" And then went on to suggest that might be a good question.

Well, I agree, although I'm doing a variation on it. After all, sleeping by itself is not all that exciting, and I want the question of the week to have some good stories to go along with it in response. So this week's question is "How long is the longest you have ever stayed in bed in one stretch?" And we'll also say getting out of bed for a few minutes can be ignored.

So, how about it? What is the longest you've ever slept or been bedridden, and be sure to share the horror stories that go along with it.

As I mentioned in the last thread, my sleeping for 3 days (only getting up to *** - I didn't eat either) was due to emotional trauma.. I had 2 friends pass away within 2 days of each other and the horror of having to go to see each of the bodies, then the funerals was 4 days of just too much for me to cope. I was utterly exhausted.

That's got to be so rough! Sorry to hear that happened, Renee.

As for the poll, it depends on what you mean... I've slept for 18 hours or so at most, but stayed in bed for longer (probably during my student days).

Sorry to hear that Renee. Its hard enough to lose 1 friend - never mind 2, in such a short space of time!

My story isn't as sad as that, but I do remember a plane trip once when we were coming back from New Zealand to South Africa via Malaysia - there had been many delays throughout the trip and by the time we ( hubby, me and kids ) got back to South Africa we were exhausted to the point that we could hardly hold an intelligent conversation.
We were staying at our inlaws house at the time and I remember them saying that we must go and have a nap and they will wake us up for dinner. We went to bed at about 3.30pm and woke up the following day at 9pm. We could not believe that we had slept a whole day and when we woke up we still asked the folks why they didn't wake us up for dinner ( thinking it was still the night before! )
It was the one time I can say without a doubt that it was the most exhausted I had ever been and I even recall sitting at the airport waiting for our flight and sleeping with our heads on our suitcases because we couldn't hold them up!

So sad Renee, very sorry for your loss.

The most I stayed in bed was 17 hours actually.

I think I must have gone for about 43 hours without sleep prior to that. Woke up at 7pm one evening, went to work a 10 hour shift from 10pm till 8am, got back home showered and changed, had a day at the beach followed by a rave at night. When the party was over we went for a swim at a waterfall and just chilled. Crawled back home and crashed.

That is actually quite hilarious.. especially the intelligent conversation part. I remember last year in Prague I was so tired that I started talking to someone about a painting.. They were like wtf and I was like what? Turns out I'd actually fallen asleep while I was talking to them and started talking about what I was dreaming of.. but my eyes were semi-open... I dragged myself off to bed after that :S

I accidentally clicked 24-48, but I don't think it was ever more than like 15 hours on second thought.

To be totally honest I don't even remember. I'm just glad I was talking about a painting because if I was talking about any of the other dreams I've had, especially lately, someone might think I'm on acid or something.

My longest ever is just about 15 hours of flat dead sleep. I mean, I just experienced a total body shut down after a TGIF happy hours with office mates that even partying mosquitoes can't bring me on. Got several missed calls (cellphone not silent), a headache and a crazy sounding stomach aftermath.

    Sorry to learn Renee's story..

I checked 12-24 hours. I seem to remember sleeping for 20 hours straight once (when I was around 10) but logic is telling me that isn't like me. More recently, I had planned on taking the Monday after Superbowl off from work in thinking that I'd have plenty of partying under my belt come the next day. I had gotten sick during the game, instead! Since my team lost, all our guests left a half hour after the game ended, and I immediately went to bed. I didn't get up til close to 11 the next morning, and feeling lucky that I requested that day off! I rarely get sick, but when I do, it's a doosey.

I cant recall any long period in my life where I didnt get out of bed, so I must say it has to be between 12 and 24! Im pretty sure it hasnt been more than that!
