Default How Many Affiliate Promoters are Also Gamblers

I am curious, how many people here that promote gambling related affiliate programs are also gamblers themselves?

I got into this industry because I am a sports bettor and had an interest in building a website. So I parlayed the two into this.....and the rest is history.

    I do both as well.
I have had a facination with casinos since I was a little kid.
I loved to learn how they operate, how they make money, house edges, etc...
I am an active poker player and sports bettor online.

I'm a poker player, and paid my way through university (and for a bit afterwards) doing it. I haven't actually played much recently as I have various projects taking up most of my time!

I love to play online, I find it alot nicer then going to the casino, I don't have to wait to play a game and there are better bonuses online. Plus promoting the casinos gives you more cash to play what you love!

I am gambler. I don't understand how some people can promote gambling with no real experience.

Sports betting is my main gambling occupation - although I do also play poker on a reasonably regular basis as well.

When we started covering casino on site - I made sure that we someone in charge of that section who was a regular online casino player (Elle the Gambling Gal) and who has a team of player testers too.

I agree that a review written without direct hands on knowledge of the gambling player experience (be it sports . poker or casino) would inevitably be a substandard review.

    Sports Betting:
I bet on the horses once a year without for the Gold Cup, other than that I might bet if for some odd reason I actually go to the races which happens now and then.

The only other thing i might bet on in terms of sports betting is football at big events like European and Worldcups

    Casino:
Every now and then i like to go to the casino, roulette, blackjack and poker if it's going.

But i don't really play online, online for sports betting if its easier.

I came into the afilliate industry as a gambler (casinos) and as an experienced player I can tell you it's really easy to spot a site where the webmaster gambles and a site where one doesn't. It gets expensive (and might sound a bit self-righteous!), but I rarely put a casino up that I haven't played (or at least played at that group) and there are *lots* I have played and decided not to promote as a result of my experiences!

To be honest, I think if I wasn't a gambler I wouldn't have the enthusiasm for the industry either. I think non-gamblers would find it harder but I do have a certain admiration for those that don't gamble and still create good sites.

It's quite a relief to see the poll showing most affiliates gamble (for now at least) though

I agree, the only reason I don't play online casino games as such is that I used to create those games, having previously worked for 3 online casinos. After 5 years of that i'd had enough playing online to realise for myself I now enjoy more of a casual bet off line, unless I really want to gamble on something and going online makes it easier.

As an affiliate, it's a massive help to at least be able to write about something you understand, which is why I've found going into other affiliate markets a little more tricky.

Most new affiliates back in 1999 were online gamblers.

    Default Gamblers

I used to play a lot but when I started promoting sports, casino and poker i realised that to make real money you canīt play that much. You got to be on the other side to make money. I do still play some poker just for fun.

And of course to try out new casinos that I work with.

I gamble online daily and find it really helps with my casino reviews and slot reviews. If I happen to win something decent, I normally take a screenshot and use this in the reviews too.
In fact our Company financials even reflect our gambling as "Gaming software testing" and any winnings reflect as " Gaming software income" - I have done this for years and the tax man is quite happy with it.
I won't promote a casino unless I have played there myself, but many times I will signup as a guest player - not always for real money ( although this is the only way to test out the deposit options )

I always like to have a look at what I am promoting so even though I am not a massive gambler, I will always try out the programmes and games I am promoting.

I found online gambling as a gambler, and then i moved into affiliate business to fund my gambling habit at first, then i started to get more serious about the business aspect. I love slots and could of easily become an addict if i was single with no bills...lol

But i also would like to say that in the past 2 years, i have not gambled online at all because i started noticing that my odds of winning were declining and declining. UIGEA may not of made "gambling" illegal in the US, but it definitely changed the atmosphere for US players.

I too started as a "gambler" My career began at the poker tables. From there it branched into casino. I still enjoy playing poker but my time at the tables has dramatically reduced over the past 2 months. Perhaps with winter in full swing and the holidays over I will spend more time in the poker rooms.

I dabble in the casinos, mostly to gain a solid understanding of the casino/game/slot so I can do an educated review. You can not sell without product knowledge. (Good excuse huh?)

I play a lot of poker online and that is how I actually got started as an affiliate. I will play casino games but only at land based casinos.

I like to wager money in casinogames. Basically in slots. When i was kid i used to play slots in stores (losing big money).

And that is true, if you are promoting online casinos, you need to know something about their games also, so you got to be familiar with those if you want to give what players need to know.

One of the best affiliate programs is SFI. My sponsor is Indian and he is very successful. It is free to join and you can earn money while being a free member, once you upgrade the commissions are fantastic.
