I have just launched spanish and italian using native writers, the plan is to convert 2000 pages into each language whilst growing around 100-200 pages per month, my next phase is to add German, Dutch, french, all scandanavien languages.. So it's a massive job i have planned.. I will update on the results in three months time

2 languages are currently available in our website, but I wish to add few more at least. This is powerful if you want to get on other markest and crucual for the SEO optimization. I recommend you to start adding some.

The site is only English at the moment but we're working on traslating it into German.

You're late How did it go? Results as planned/hoped? I hope it generated returns for you.

Any advice or feedback you could provide for others thinking of going the same route? ie. any surprises you encountered along the way.

    TIA.

ps. English-only here with the admittedly semi-useful Google Translate available on-site for visitors (my stats indicate that it gets used quite a bit).

I would not convert the whole content to a another language....not 1:1 - this is what google do after crawling.
This content would rank behind nirvana...

Right now there is only English on the site, since it is more universal, I plan to add French as a language version of the current domain. I also look at the statistics of nationalities living in the country and plan to launch new sites based on this.

It seems to me that sometimes adding language can reduce traffic to a site.
Especially if we advertise offshore sites, and probably most do. For example, a site in English will attract some traffic from Russia and France. But if we translate our site into those languages we will be blocked in those countries by their laws. And we will lose traffic. On the other hand, we will gain someone with a VPN, or for example RU- Ukraine, Belarus FR - Canada
So all in all, it's hard to say if it's worth it.

I like multilingual sites very much, I have one myself however I have very few languages. I would like more, but I chose plug-ins and software that is not so easy to use. I mean, all in all it is, but everything is laborious, on the expensive side it gives more possibilities for the future.
