It is usually said that gambling business is mostly for people who could not make it in the normal world. Cannot or could not get employed.

Many people employed in this industry have barely done high school, let alone a university.

How much of that is true, in reality?

I, myself am a university dropout. Though it has less to do with academics and more to do with, me just wanting to be my own boss.

But, it would still, be good to hear, if we have any MBAs, or economists, among us?!

I have MA red diploma (summa *** laude) in macroeconomics, specialisation on economic policy (I am not 100% sure). Last time I saw my red diploma it was when I was moving. The paper was rotten and nearly not readable. I was thinking to throw it away, but I think I did not do it.

I was always greedy about knowledge. The universities are opposite of spreading wisdom. They are pure indoctrination institutions. My diploma was only good to verify that info that was known a least since Timothy Leary Times.

It is much more amusing to touch a real world and real economy through real economic competition.

People at (economic universities or at social sciences) are cowards. And do not be mistaken, they know it very well. It is a closed bubble which exists without relation to reality. Thee smarter people from bubble know about it, but they are cowards to get out. The more stupid are not even aware. But they all walk he path Erasmus - BA - MA - PhD - PostDoc - Docent - Professor - Death.

It is hard to explain to outsider how the real university system really works, because it is as awkward as "lifetime" revenue share.

It would seem that the 9 to 5 brigade are the people who could not make it in the real world. They have to be told - what, when and how. People who live in the real world, are the people living their own lives doing as they please - not the wage slaves.

I am a university dropout, but not entirely sure whether that is because I was not smart enough or because I went to uni only since that's what all my peers were doing at the time. (quite possibly both of the above)

Apart from being an affiliate I am also employed in the iGaming industry, so I guess that's x2 - not sure that really means anything, but you can use it for your statistics.

That said, I am in a pretty comfortable place finance and time wise to resume (or start over) my studies, however that isn't something I am planning to do because an absence of a degree doesn't seem to have any impact on my current mid to long term future plans.

I have a degree, masters and PhD. I used to work as a scientist but it was far too political and working for yourself is much better. I do still teach on masters courses though.

I have a degree in economics and accountancy, in truth it was a stepping stone into a graduate job and little else.

My eldest son is in the final year of A Levels here and will go to uni next year, hopefully he studies a little harder than I did!

I've attended 3 universities and graduated none.
Not that I couldn't have graduated, just wasn't applying myself and other reasons.

I could go back to school, though I'd really rather not.

I'm 31 now. When I was in highschool I making a killing for awhile on clickbank, back when they had glorified torrent movie download sites before netflix was ubiquitous and there was some software free trials I did well with(now clickbank has neither, no more software products and the niche I was in is diluted and largely defunct, and the gray area movie download niche has transformed and there's still offers out there on other networks but not the same). All from niche youtube traffic, really more or less uploading bulk testimonials with the right keywords, all it took in early early youtube days, free traffic galore with much less competition, there was weeks I'd avg over $500 a day when I was just over 15 years old. I also got into CPA offers, and did real well for awhile making my own content locking sites(not gonna lie, the content didn't actually unlock, nor did the content exist) let's just say I was using Scott Richter tactics for that one.

So I had a taste of that sweet sweet commission internet money when I was young, but none of it lasted, was from one "method" to another, and not so much white hat. As I got older, I dabbled in affiliate marketing with varying success some more. Eventually finding a different niche on some private affiliate programs I did well with, and the commissions were in bitcoin. Had good income through 2015 in btc. Also had made good money doing a lot of exchanges on localbitcoins when they accepted U.S. users, in it's earlier days before there was so many easy access bitcoin options, just facilitating could make margins. I got really lucky in 2016, going on a high limit dumb luck slot streak after hitting a nice election bet win. I figured $1k was btc peak and spent it like it was nothing. If I held onto all me old coins, it be worth millions now, but I blew it all. In the process traveled a lot and spent money like a fool, though had fun. The crypto gains were great, but not sustainable in the least. I made a name for myself as a crypto influencer and was involved in publicized controversies in 2017 and 2018(I might get back into that space publicly again, though I mean it's all about having the money and traveling, no one cares otherwise, and while I don't care about the attention, if I do well with my sight, and grow back my following in that space, will be good cross promo). Wound up putting money into a btc mining operation in 2019, we had a warehouse with custom electrical, which would have worked great though being only a 1/3 owner when it was finally ready was forced to shut down and liquidate. When the markets are down, friends and family are quick to be like of well, though off of doge alone keeping that felicity open for a few years like I advocated for would have made us tremendous profit. Which is what it is, but that experience just made me more adverse to working with others and sharing ownership.

Anyway, online gambling is a niche I can put my interests into and that is more sustainable than temporary internet related windfall income I had in the past. After having a few successes financially online, one sustainable one is the holy grail for me. I do not want to work a normal job the rest of my life, I do not want to go back to school, I do not want to answer to a boss. I have had a few normal jobs before, including in the past year. However, the taste of a the good life when I was traveling was just so nice, the thought of a 9 to 5 with two weeks of vacation days per year and set schedule for the next few decades is makes me nauseous. Also, won't go into details, though I do have some serious health issues and honestly being able have flexibility with my schedule is probably better for me. I'm not adverse to work, I'd rather work on a site 7 days a week every day of the year as long as I can make my own schedule and not be tied down to a place. I have traveled Caribbean and Mediterranean before and would like to do it again with a sustainable income, I will work all day with a nice view and some good food.

The stereotypes may be true for some of us. I'm not gonna to lie, I was not built for the normal world, I don't want a traditional career, and I will work on my platform like a slave until I reach reasonable success to avoid a normal path. And then I will try to grow and become more sustainable for the long run by possibly buying or starting more sites and outsources some. After tasting the freedom of independent online work, also after fumbling a small crypto fortune that could have grown to a large one, may God strike me down if I give up. Not expecting my first attempts to be perfect or for it to happen overnight, but as long as I learn and work consistently and improve, I am confident it will pan out.

Maybe less "could not" make it in the "normal world", and more just really really do not want to.

I'll be damned if I am not renting villas for cheap(don't need to be a trillionaire to live it up) on airbnb and and kicking my feet up overlookin a lake in Montenegro and island hoppin again in 3 years time, living normal just sucks such so much after living like that before. Looking for jobs even ones that fit some of my skill set is just humiliating and depressing especially with all the gaps in my employment, and it's not too late to create something.

Never went anywhere near University.

When I was working for others it was as a computer programmer, initially, and University courses in computing were as useful as a "chocolate teapot" back in the early 80s. Out of touch and irrelevant.

Worked in banking and finance for about 20 years driving EFT-POS and ATMs and financial interchanges, working through to project management and then pure management. In the end I noticed that 50-75% of my job was basically managing problem staff and that's not my thing.

I jumped into consulting for 2 years for a big 4 firm which was a bit better (but still peddling bullsh!t) and then into my side hustle (website) which was generating more funds than the job I disliked. Side hustle became full-time - and I have been doing it for 20+ years. Happily.

Approaching retirement now - which I think is good because I feel that the niche is closing for independent affiliates. Google is taking the "big money" approach to ranking search results. Cash not content is the important factor now.

This is an interesting point TheGooner. Thanks for sharing. Do you recommend affiliates step into other advertising avenues like mobile push ads instead of organic Google search results?

I´ve got a BBA. I thought of getting an MBA at some point, but at this moment I am self-employed and I don´t really see a reason for it.

I entered this field quite young, when I was only 24. I had attempted college twice, got accepted, enrolled only to see that it's not for me. Partying, while taking general courses for 2 years, and paying 5 figures a semester, just seemed like bad math, waste of my time since I'm not a party person, waste of my money.

Quit twice without telling anymore and after a few years of trying out different online businesses, stumbled upon this one and never looked back. Fourteen years later, I'm still happy to be here.

The education system at least in America was introduced hundred years ago, so factory owners would have more skilled workers as they were struggling to teach people to do what needs to be done, because the illiteracy and lack of basic knowledge. For that the system is great. For everything else it sucks.

Just like everything else in life, if studying is your thing by all means do it. If you are doing it because of peer pressure, parents, or any other bs reason, it's a waste of your time. If your dream is to "work for a company" most of them would gladly give you a trial period even without a fancy diploma.

I hate wasting time... and anything I can't see point in, I take as a waste of my time. I can waste money, resources and all of that stuff, can probably get back. Time, can't get time back, so why would you waste something so valuable on something you dislike. I don't buy the whole victim mentality.

I have a PhD in Geochemistry .. I'm glad I did it in that it was a personal challenge. However I stayed in academia for a few years but lost all interest in what I was doing. I remember the day I wanted out when sat in a group meeting hearing a very gifted guy explain his research and all I was thinking was "who cares". By the time I left I was pretty unemployable (age, qualifications) but fortunately had started a little sideline. Still just about keeping it going today.

I have a degree in hospitality management and post grad diploma in marketing but I haven't worked in the hospitality industry since 2017. Looking back I think the hospitality degree was a waste of time. I wish I studied something more exciting like medicine or biomedical sciences. I'm planning to enrol in med school next year now that my kids are grown. I quit working 9-5 and took up content writing when they were little.

For me, obtaining an academic degree is more about choices and opportunities than whether you can make it or not in the real world. If you lack skills, it might be challenging to pursue higher education, but the same applies to building a profitable business in this industry (or in any industry).

I got the impression Matt was the more youthful of the two - maybe he just weathered better
