Depends on what type of articles and how long they are... I have seen sites that class 60 words as an article... I always go for 600 to 2,000 words.. go for both quality and quantity,
In the beginning of your website it is important that you have some content already. Don't start with 5 articles and add 1 every day. I would advice you start with 50 quality articles.
I would build the site with enough articles/pages to give the impression that it provides an adequate starting point for covering whatever the site subject is in reasonable depth (let's make a nominal suggestion of 20 -25 plus, depending on what the overall subject is. Just personal view though, Christiaan's suggestion of 50 could be equally a good idea). Leave it a while till the pages are indexed, then add more, maybe a couple per day.
I would also start with a good amount of content and add 2-3 articles per week. This should be enough. Ther is no need to add content daily. Search engines only should see that you add new things regularly. This should increase the crawling time as well.
I have been wondering the same thing myself. I have heard adding an article of 400+ words twice a week is good. Thanks for the info.
