You know what really pisses me off about that auction?

We have members in the community world who attack other affiliates for promoting rogue casinos, they **** all over them even when they have a legit excuse like they are new and didn't know or that when the started promoting them the group wasn't rogue, but then here we have a million dollar damn website that people are going to be willing to buy for who knows how much money, but when you check the site out the very first site you see on thier homepage is one of those casinos that everyone has labeled as rogue, but that doesn't seem to matter to anyone because they are all drooling over a website that obviously became huge by promoting who, and what they want!!!....but let someone like Gamtrak or myself have a rogue group up by accident [for me anyway, didn't realize they went rogue this year until Aussie Dave, the ass pointed it out in a very rude manner calling me white trash, unethical and no morals, which if i could of drove to his door to smack the **** out of him i would of], then your the scum of the industry?

So whats the deal, you can promote whoever you want and the "affiliate Gods" will leave you alone as long as your site is bringing in the big bucks or is it wrong that everyone wants that site regardless of how it became a number site?

I see the current content as pretty much irrelevant to the sale.

I very much doubt that any of the bidders are interested in buying it for the content and I doubt they are interested in an affiliate model going forward, either.

It's the domain name they are after, imo, not the content or the historical trading as an affiliate site...

For myself slots.com would be worth a coupon 2 can dine for $9.99 at McDonald's. I believe the gambling domain bubble has burst a few years ago.

But interesting the fellow down the street from me just sold his entire domain portfolio for just under 1.5 million.

Funny - because I checked the aution just after it closed and the top bid was shown as $4.55m still under the $5m reserve - and passed in

So there might have been some post-auction negotiations ...
But above the reserve price? Really ?

Supposedly there was a last minute proxy bid

I got the following email from domain broker John M at Moniker.

    Auction UPDATE: Slots.com

We just received a bid for 5.5 million USD via an absentee Proxy bid as the auction was closing. Therefore we were not able to enter it

in time. The highest bid online was 4.5million but the current bid is now at 5.5Million USD

If you are interested in exceeding the 5.5 million USD bid or talking about this live, let me now otherwise this sale may be completed at 5.5 Million USD.

LOL - what an amateur way to run an auction - online or otherwise.
An anonymous proxy bid that cannot be entered in time? the infamous Ebay style "sniping" bid?

If this is true - it's a poor way to run an auction for something worth more than $9.99 - and how can the seller be sure that he/she got the best price for the domain name when other "bidders" could not respond?

Call me cynical - but i suspect that Moniker decided that the complete absence of REAL bidders was embarrassing and this is side-show is designed to inflate the price of slots.com - for a surprise re-sale NEXT year!

It's like the condo blocks 4-5 years ago that "sell out" and then are slowly leaked back onto the market is dribs and drabs by the developers / land-agents as demand allows.

Usually the "sale" is nothing more than a tiny "down-payment" which is made on the sale price in a related-party transaction to give pseudo-legitimacy to the sale - and the property/domain is parked for 6-12 months

I also agree the auction process seems pretty missed up - showing the reserve before its met? Taking bids after the auction close?

Gooner you read my mind lol. I wonder if it really sold for 5.5 mil? or perhaps an artificially produced domain bubble primed and ready for the next auction. I mean fake a 5.5mil transaction and artificially drive up domain prices.

I noticed the other day iphonegambling.com is taken. I wonder what it would be worth if slots.com went for 5.5 mil. lets say 1.5 mil lol?

Just found out that Slots.com was sold for an astonishing $5.5 Million!! I just had to share the news I cannot remember what it was I voted for but I think it was more than $1 million and less than $2 million. This sale sure proved a lot of us wrong.

oh I just read the posts and you guys already knew about it lol. So you really think it wasnt a legit sale? It was a .com name and not a .org so it should be worth more than poker.org I would think.

I spoke to a representative of Moniker, the company involved in the domain auction, and it was confirmed to me that the fee for the domain has been placed in escrow and that the domain is also currently transfered to escrow so the transaction is substantially completed at this point in time.

The representative of Moniker was not certain if the buyer will reveal their identity upon completion of the transaction or not. But we should find out very soon whether they will reveal who they are upon completion of the transaction.

It is now official. The puchaser of the domain Slots.com for $5.5 million USD was the bodog brand. We will have a story up based on the bodog press release shortly.
