How often do you buy a lottery ticket?

I play once a week by direct debit on line so I don't forget, only 2 tickets which is only £2. For the big euro I buy a ticket if I remember.

Now here's the real question... has anyone actually won anything?

I've never actually played it, cause to me it looks ... well fixed. No way they let chance play a role when it comes to winning. Worst part, people don't even consider it gambling.

My father for example plays it for over 30 years, considers gambling a sin from his religious point of view, yet gets a ticket every week.

I won a massive £10 a few weeks ago. As I write this im sat on my yacht in Monte Carlo surrounded by lingerie models, drinking champagne that I bought with my winnings.......

I dont think £10 would even by a decent dinghy!

I'm saving myself for a biggie too! Anything over £1M will do for me.

My partner won around $700 last year on a $15 spend.

At an average of two jackpot draws a year that's $30 per year, so we reckon she is ahead for the next 20 years or so.

I only buy one when the jackpot gets huge and only from my state here in teh US. I have never bought a ticket online. I am just afraid I worry myself to death that I wouldnt get paid!

That said, this forum probably isn't the best place to do this kind of market research, seeing as the vast majority of the people here are savvy about how the gambling industry works and the mathematics behind it.

And that right there, is why I never play. If I am going to 'play' at gambling, I would at least like to gamble on a form of entertainment (ie. a game) rather than wait for sunday to check if the numbers hit. Lacks excitement.

That said, the other half has been tempted many times and I do always have a glimmer of hope when he checks those numbers.. just in case... you know? And even though he bought it, he would obviously share the jackpot... so might have whispered a FEW big jackpot in his ear from time to time and see if he gets a ticket.

So big hypocrite? Yes I am. lol!

Well, thanks for your awesome replies to this post and reading over them I see that most are tempted to test their destiny only when the Jackpot is huge and to be honest at this time 1 Million in my pocket would not go a miss, why punch for the star's and once a year go for a 150 Million Jackpot only.

I also see that most people buy single tickets rather than join a syndicate or alliance to greater increase your chances of a group win!!!!

Its seems to me that it does not matter what we do in this life, but I would rather do it in a group of friends and have that joint feeling that this time we shall drop the big one, rather then sitting in secret biting my nails as the numbers roll out the machine!!!!

That leads me to another question - Are humans social or solitary by nature?

In any case you have to be in it, to win it!!!

I just came across this thread which was interesting. I try my luck every week but set myself a limit. So no more that €5 a week on lottery tickets. The jackpot in my country right now is €1.3 million so its not too shabby at all. I try my luck but the largest amount in winnings I ever received was something like €30..LOL.
