Question How often do you check your sites for broken links?

Links break for lots of different reasons. Websites can disappear altogether or they can be reorganized. Even if you don't have many links to other websites, making changes to your own site can break links.

How do you handle broken links? Do you check your sites regularly for issues, and if so, how do you do it? Do you use tools like Xenu or Screaming Frog to find bad internal and external links on your sites? Do you review crawl errors reported by Google Search Console? And when you do check for broken links, do you find it is a worthwhile effort in that you find changes you should make or not?

I use SEO profiler which audits the site once a week and that gives me any broken links as errors. It is infuriating though when you correct all that are broken and then a couple of week's later it shows 2000 broken links courtesy of Corals. I did notice a slight increase in the serps once the errors had been corrected though but that could of been down to meta data being corrected as well

Use the Broken Link Checker plug in on the WP sites. It checks all links on a weekly basis (user setting). I get an email if there is a bad link or broken image.

Broken Link Checker is a good plugin for wordpress sites, just install and configure: the rest is the plugin's job.

We use ahrefs for this, but I have to admit we don't check for broken links very often...

One a week. It all depends on how much content I have published lately.

I check Google Webmaster tools daily and then use Xenu every few weeks, as I find some casinos have a habit of changing their links without notifying their Affiliates

We utilize Search engine analyser, which does a weekly assessment of the website and reports any broken links as faults. However, it is frustrating when you fix all the broken links and then, a few weeks ago, more broken links appear, thanks to Sea life. However, once the flaws were fixed, I did see a little improvement in the serps, albeit that might have also been the result of updated header information.

A broken link can cause problems for your site as well as your reputation. You want to always make sure that your links are going to the right pages. Whether content has been moved or the link was typed incorrectly, staying on top of these issues will enhance the user experience.
