I really dont think there is a best practice answer - if u own a website about craps, surely you content will be added and modified at slower rates than on a casino website where u have lots of games, tips, campaigns , offers etc . Google looks at both fresh content and modified content as one can see in the page source. Both new content and fresh content are important as content is dynamic , not static. How often depends on your resources, I aim for 1-2 new pages / campaigns per week and also 1-2 content tweaks on existing pages

I work on the site pretty much daily, not all the changes are visible as I am doing a lot of backend improvements at the moment. I try and add new content at least 3 times a week, there is always something do though.

Many people update it every day. I was inspired. In my case, it's about four times a month. Sometimes I post about 5 articles at once, but it takes time because I want to add articles with rich content. Recently, I have also ordered articles outsourced.

Trought the years, I think if you own website and want to keep it updated, you have to add content every day about 1-2 articles minimum, but the quality shoud be good thats the most important thing. For technical updates, I prefer to do it maximum once per 2 months. This gives google time to go trought the whole site and you can see how the change effect the ranking. Ofcourse, we dont talk about the case when you want to movesomething 20px right. I also not preffer to change the main website colors often.

In terms of content, we add every day, but site redesign we usually do every 5 yrs, we do however tweak it every 6 months, until a big change is coming.

It depends on what kind of site you are aiming for, but if it is writing-oriented, you will need at least three times a week.
If the main focus is on attracting customers through a separate video site or social networking service, it is not necessary to post that many times, but it is necessary to update the information as needed.
