How often does the weather change how much you work?

Today is a day of global weather extremes. At the moment in the Boston area (where I live) it is -9 degrees Celsius (16 degrees Fahrenheit). And in Sydney where Renee lives she was gloating it was 45 degrees Celsius yesterday. That's a difference of 54 degrees Celsius or 97 degrees Fahrenheit.

So, for this week's question we decided to ask how much and how often the weather changes your work routine. If it is especially hot or especially cold does that make a difference in how much you work? What about sunny days versus cloudy days versus pouring down rain or snowstorms?

I chose that the weather doesn't affect how much I work.

Since we are in an air conditioned office it's often hard to tell whether it's hot or cold outside, except for the fact that from my desk I have a nice view over Botany Bay and there is a huge thermometre on the road. It can be a few degrees off sometimes (for eg the day it was 45.8 it showed that it was 50).

Of course when it's that hot I'd much rather be sunbaking on the beach. Luckily we are close enough to the beach that we can go during lunch time

We had 70 cm of snow here a week ago but I'm on 8th floor...

The only problem I had are the summer temperatures of 40+ Celsius but installed an AC so it's no longer an issue. In summer of 2011 I couldn't do much work, it was crazy.

theres a saying in melbourne that if you dont like the weather just wait an hour or so. at times we can have every season in one day

I really hate working when the weather is horrible outside (grey, rain, wind - you name it) - The sun doesn't really affect my work, but that might be because of the air con running when it's hot hot hot

I always seem to work more in the winter. It does not vary day to day very often but when it is cold I prefer to stay in and what else to do other than work? I would love to live in a warmer climate but I may never get any work done then!

It's the time that the sun sets that changes everything. Like leaving work early to go to the beach and unwind at the end of the day...

I mainly work from home, so unless there's a power cut due to storm or thunder, I'm not really significantly affected by the weather.

hehe, I thought it was just us Brit's that like to talk about the weather

What with air-con offices and my commute being a 5 minute walk to the office the weather does not really affect my work. Although I would have to agree with Maria and would say I am definitely in a better mood when the sun is shining, as it is right now!

I always hear people talking about the bad British weather, but to tell you the truth I used to be much warmer in the UK than in Cyprus now lol. I miss the carpeted flats and central heating everywhere!

Hi Maria, I know what you mean. I am in Gibraltar now and find that the lack of carpet and central heating mean the houses are a lot colder than what they are in UK! Although now when I go back to England I find I am always opening windows as feel a bit suffocated!

Weather up in QLD is a little special sometimes. I didn't have power, and on again and off again water for the last couple of days.

I have no problems working in the cold, but when it gets so hot.. I feel guilty when the aircon runs 18-24hrs a day.

I know exactly what you mean Sarah; when we live in hotter countries, we then get use to the fresh air (it’s lovely). My apartment has extra large windows and the win filters very easily and I really really hate to have to carry the heater and the water bottle around the house wherever I go LOL
