I registered the domain name corfman.com as a personal domain back in 1996, and have had a personal e-mail account under that domain since that time, just about 14 years ago now.

But I've had an e-mail account for much longer than that. A company called Computer Corporation of America in the 1980's had a commercial e-mail system used within some companies before internet e-mail really existed. So I had a business e-mail account nearly 30 years ago.

And if I really want to look at ancient personal history, I used punched cards around 40 years ago when I wrote my first fortran programs back when I was in high school.

I wrote my first mainframe computer programs in Cobol and Lisp in 1970, also using punched cards. I will never forget that because I once dropped a cardbox containing the punched cards 15 minutes before I was to use them in the computer center. They were all lying around on the floor. It took me one whole day to sort the cards in the right sequence. I was a newbie then and because of this incidence I became for a while the joke of all programmers until the same thing happened to another chap.

I am just the perfect age for the internet revolution. When I was in high school my family had Prodigy internet service - which included an email address. In 1995 I got my university email account. Shortly afterwards I registered my first domain (matted.org - no longer in my portfolio). I got my yahoo sometime in college. By 2000 I registered cognitivepowers.com - and that email still exists along with others I've collected since. My primary personal email I've only had for a few years (gmail).

I still have my aol account-although I mainly use it for AIM and nothing more. I got the account 17 years ago, aka 1993.

I have one that is around 10 years old but it so full of spam I don't think I've checked it in months. Does that count?

    Otherwise... 4/5 years.

I got tired of changing emails all the time and registered a domain (don't want the spam, so not listing it) in 1996, to do an email forwarding service, that never got written. I've had my main account on that domain since 1997, over 13 years now.

I just noticed this. I've adjusted the poll to reflect one fewer "Other" and one additional "Over 10 years".

Since this thread and poll question is eight years old, it seems like time to ask it again.

Please see the replacement poll here:
