Default "How to Play Poker" Google searches spike 200%

According to GGPoker, there has been a huge surge in searches for poker of Google amid the COVID-19 lockdown.

    From CardsChat.com:

Analyzing Google trends in the UK, the operator’s data team found an 87% increase in searches for the term “poker rules.”

That figure tallies with a 92% spike in daily activity on GGPoker’s UK site. The operator’s UK platform has seen new sign-ups increase by 102% over the past two months.

This correlates with a 200% increase in the number of Google searches for the phrase “how to play poker.”

Search data takes into account pre and post-lockdown conditions in the UK. Specifically, researchers looked at the 30 days before the country’s March 23 quarantine and the 30 days after. During that time, searches for the term “best poker hands” were up 282%.

    Other significant stats, include:

Search term: “How to play poker” – 200% month-on-month increase between February 23 and April 28, 2020
Search term: “How to bluff” – 144% monthly increase between February 21 and March 22, 2020
    Search term: “Texas Hold’em” – 292% month-on-month increase between February 23 and April 28, 2020
GGPoker announced last month that it was hosting the $100 million WSOP Super Circuit Series.

Lottery related keywords are also valuable nowadays (for the UK), it's a growing trend for this area too

GGpoker just got ladbrokes on the network today fwiw, while most of the other skins that left the now defunct microgaming poker platform moved to [the outdated but probably very cheap to get on] iPoker network

The folks I know with casino sites have always told me that poker is usually too much of a niche thing to really target compared to other games. I’ll have to pass this along to see if it changes anything for them.

Would be difficult to rank for meaningful poker keywords with a casino website. Google distinguishes it's gambling authority into different sub categories and while there is some overlap, not a ton. At least, that is my opinion based on what we experience daily and have seen on other websites.

Been telling everyone this for a few months now, triple traffic is what happened. OTOH, poorly constructed sites/sites that rip off other people's content (yeah, you know who you are f***er) saw their traffic dive (and I can only laugh).

No, the best time to build a poker site was before this crap. Not now that it is starting to fade.
Anecdotally, we hooked up with a site that was perfectly positioned during this time frame... meh, nothing came of it and it was a waste of time and money. Starting a new poker site is not easy.

As our main focus was Sports we where very concerned when the pandemic hit. With people stuck indoors we luckily have managed to pivot to poker and have done really well. We have also just launched a small website that will hopefully prove to be a nice side business in the long term too.

Maybe i understood your post wrong but Ladbrokes did not join GGPoker. They are still a part of the iPoker network and will join PartyPoker in the next months.

I see keywords with: How to, rules. If your website has already have a good metrics, it might be a nice decision to add some articles for traffic. At the same time I'm not sure about conversion with these types of keywords. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for your post. This pandemic is really positive for gambling sphere. As for GGPoker, it's developing rapidly, and it is using this period profitably with all the online series.

Excluding Poker Stars, and besides GGPoker would anyone here know of other medium/to big poker sites globally? Any newcomers in Asian market for example?
