Huge applause for Australia in women's football world cup
The Australians lost narrowly just by one goal to the mighty Brazilians in today's women's world cup match. They really played very well and were enthusiastically applauded by around 30,000 spectators. If they continue playing as well as they did today, they may even reach the quarter finals.

The Aussies dont let up, they do actually quite well, and qualify quite a bit - but they have a pretty tough pool.

The Aussies still have a chance to qualify for the next round if they can beat Norway who didn't play too well.

I'm under the impression the best women teams are China, USA and Sweden? However, i must confess i haven't seen any games yet in the Women's World Cup. Doesn't seems to be on any of the channels in Ireland

China have not even qualified for the tournament. USA are world #1, Germany the reigning world champions and world's #1 player for the last 5 years, Marta, is a Brazilian. Swedes are not that good anymore. But France and Japan are also pretty strong.

Go Australia, Go! says Germany
After Japan ousted Germany yesterday, whole Germany will support Australia against Sweden today because only if Sweden lose, Germany will qualify for the Olympics next year.

The German support was of no use. The Aussies lost 1-3 to Sweden. But they have made many friends, not only because they never gave up, but also because they played very well.
