I got Jury Duty at the end of the month

Everyone in my home thinks that this is so funny... so I thought I would share.

I get a Jury summons today. I appreciate it's my civic duty and we all have to do it. Still, I was not thrilled when I saw the envelope. Every time I go I spend the whole day stuck downtown waiting to be screened. I have never been selected (has anyone here been selected for a jury?). Plus they charge inflated prices for parking, overall not a fun day. But here is the best part, the summons is for the end of this month, on my birthday!

We all know the sheriff would not exactly be an impartial juror. We all know that Sheriff Anthony knows in his heart that any defendant it a courtroom has to be guilty - otherwise why would they be there in the first place? Are sheriff's and other law enforcement officers really allowed to sit on juries?

Just a small suggestion... track the IP address of the guilty and check if he has got multiple accounts before pushing the "ban" button.

I agree with your family - that's hilarious. Only because it's not happening to me.

I've never been called to jury duty, but some of my friends have been called multiple times. Apparently if you have any kind of record they don't ever call you up. I guess all those speeding fines worked in my favour

I agree with Mojo.. Wear your party hat AND your birthday suit. Birthday suit is guaranteed that you wont sit there for hours. They will take one look at you, think you're crazy, and let you go. Problem solved

I've done it once ... it's just frustrating.

The "evidence" is usually testimony and is produced in a drawn out fashion, very piecemeal, with disputes around every corner. There is little physical "proof".

After an inordinate amount of time you are really left with little more than a popularity contest between the accused, the complainant, and the two lead lawyers. And the best paid lawyers tend to have all the tricks and style.

Once you see justice in action, and realise it's totally unlike the TV version, you'll make doubly sure to never trust it again.

It works a little different in Australia, you can send back a letter from your Employer saying "We can't afford to have Anthony away, he's an integral part of our business" stuff like that.
