IE9 to Block Ad Tracking?

I just came across this article which basically states that Microsoft are looking at building the functionality within IE9 to allow the user to more easily block any kind of tracking scripts that are activated when a page is loaded...

Obviously this could have a significant impact on affiliate marketing on the whole. Should we be concerned about this? Do we think users will even utilise this functionality?

Hey Dean,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I found this part interesting "Users may like the idea of being able to block certain sites from tracking their actions online but some may be surprised by the result. That's because sites that users block from tracking them will also be blocked from displaying content"

So I guess in the case of a player who goes through an affiliate's site to find a casino, he will not want to activate the tracking blocker since he would not be able to view full contents.

Then again, it's just a though.

Very interesting. Has anyone here been using the IE9 Beta?

This has been a LONG time coming.

Over the last few years, every single version release of browsers has become more and more restrictive concerning ad tracking.

Almost all anti spyware programs remove cookies and tracking. Every single website tech support person will immdeditaely recommend users delete all cookies before proceeding when discussing "ANY" issue. (especially casino support)

And during the time frame of these so called improvements, we have seen affiliate programs move compeltly away from affiliate id's being embedded in the download exe's and instead of making improvements to links etc to help the affiliate, many have moved away from it.

In the end, the affiliate programs do the most to help affiliates with REAL LONG TERM solutions will get the lionshare of the traffic.

Another valid reason to have specific bonus codes with a program. And I mean a bonus code that will assign the user to the affiliate.

When the BBC reported this last week they said:

It is not the first browser to offer such functionality. Chrome, Firefox and Opera also allow users to create lists of trusted sites.

So presumably IE is just playing catch-up?

This would not effect most current forms of affiliate tracking, ie passing a variuable in the url we are currently used to.
