Default Illegal gambling market in Australia could reach A$2 billion

According to a prediction by the Hong Kong-based Asian Racing Federation (ARF), black market gambling in Australia is running rampant. The group prepared a report on illegal gambling in Australia, as well as New Zealand, South Africa, South Korea and Singapore, and asserts that the underground gambling market will reach AU$2 billion (US$1.419 billion) by next year.

Other than organized crime; what's the catch for the small time retail gambler.

Customer service? better odds? bigger amounts that can be bet? what else.

I live in Australia and no longer use Australian bookmakers, except for the Betfair exchange which is registered in Australia. I mainly use a broker based overseas. Australian bookmakers are notorious for restricting winning customers. They say nearly 2 billion is bet illegally overseas, but that 2 billion likely would not be bet at all if we did not have access to overseas services due to account restrictions.

The reason why I use a broker is
1: All of my Australian accounts are severely restricted, they won't let me put a bet on for the amount I want.
2: Odds are much, much better. I increase my profit by 40%. We are all trying to make a living so that's a no brainer.
3: I can also get a private Betfair account through my broker that will bring my market base rate commission down to 3% instead of 5%. The state I live in is a nanny state and I cannot get market base rate discounts. I have not done that yet because the website for the Betfair third party account is IP blocked in Australia and I need a VPN, The website loads slow for me and I can't use it with my Bet Angel trading bots.

In terms of customer service, it's a pain to withdraw and deposit through transferwire to convert from AUD to EURO. Deposit's are not instantly credited which is somewhat annoying at first, is normally loaded in my account 6pm daily so that's not too bad. Customer service is very friendly and I have not had any issues or disputes, But it is 10X easier to bet with an Australian bookie in that regard.

I will say this though. As far as I am aware the reason why the services I use are considered "Illegal" is because they are paying tax to Malta and not the Australian government. I am taxed through the roof for my day job, why should I lose 40% of my profits because the Australian government wants to **** more money up the wall? I couldn't care less if they say it's illegal. It's either I use overseas brokers or I don't bet at all. Either way they aren't going to get any tax from my betting.

Well as it it is NOT illegal for New Zealand citizens to gamble online and/or use offshore sites ...
So ... I can report on "NZ illegal gambling" too ... it's zero.

Given the failure of the report (or the summariser) to realise that ... I'm not sure of the quality of this report.

The 2% points should justify decent geographically close proxy/vpn/rdp, or am I missing something?

Otherwise it is not important if the state does not lose the money at all. Some organisation (Asian Racing Federation) is pushing some agenda and that is it. For political and human decisions is not important what reality is, but what is perceived as reality. Gambling is full of such decisions. Like affiliates still think they will make (more) money in regulated markets, while it is obvious that it is not gonna happen.

People do stuff online even if you ask them not to. A great illustration to the power of the state

There is also an illegal online casino. In Japan, online casinos have just become popular, so I would like to be careful.
