Illinois tries to pass online gaming legislation again
It's generally accepted that politics is a strange strange world. But when it comes to strange, there are degrees. There's Iowa strange, which is barely strange at all. There's Florida strange, which is truly bizarre. And then there's Illinois strange, which seems to be an alternate universe.
In Illinois, Gov. Pat Quinn keeps vetoing gambling expansion legislation. And the Illinois legislature keeps trying to pass it. In this latest go around, Quin vetoed gambling expansion on March 4. And on March 6, an Illinois Senate committee approved a new gambling expansion bill they hope will satisfy Quinn's objections. The bill approves 5 new locations for brick-and-mortar casinos. And oh yeah, they included online gambling in this one too.
This is the second time Illinois has tried to pass online gambling legislation. And given how persnickety Quinn is when it comes to gambling expansion, it will be interesting to see how he responds to the online gaming piece of this bill.
