Default Internal links - no index or no follow?

    Hi everyone,

I've got a question: I've checked my website with with SEO tools and it shows I've got too many internal links on my page. What should I do? I heard I should use a special HTML tag to tell robots not to see something on my page. But what should I add? No index or no follow tags? Can I do the same with external links?

I'll appreciate if someone will explain me that - I'm fresh here, please be tolerant

well a no follow link wont do anything apart from making the page rank that was flowing disappear into cyber space,it could even be seen as an attempt at page rank sculpting, which is bad.

How many have you got on the page? personally, if they are a benefit for the user then I would ignore the seo tools

There's no such thing as too many internal links.

I've got 273 internal links and it shows that I shouldn't have more than 100 to make my website look better. It is written that I should keep the number of links per page below 100 and having more than 100 links in a single page will lead to a bad user experience, and it possibly runs into the risk of been considered as spam.

as for external links, it shows 16, which is good here

    What do you think?

So according to you, I should leave it?

What if the number of internal links will increase? And why they tell me to decrease the number of internal links? What is the main aim of that?

So many questions, because I'm beginning my adventure with SEO and I'm looking for your help

What is the SEO tool you are using? I would agree with thebookiesoffers. If the internal links are useful to people visiting your site then there is no reason why you should get rid of them. Their can be issues sometimes if people keyword stuff the anchor text in the internal links, but that's really a wider issue with keyword stuffing in general. Just because the SEO tool recommends something, it doesn't mean it's right.

Don't ever put 'nofollow' on internal links (according to a Matt Cutts video). He also stated in another one that more than 100 internal links on a page is not advisable, but I tend to agree with the view that it isn't anything to worry about really. As for wikipedia, it may not be the best example because it will have had a manual boost / be on a google white list (the existence of which they admitted to in a court case + I have seen a manual handed out to the folk who label the authority sites & give that boost - it wan't very helpful!). I think if a site gets the white list treatment then they can do what they like and will rank high anyway.

The reason why SEO tools suggest less than 100 links is because people think the google bot can't deal with anymore, which is not correct, there are plenty of examples

I have read some seo expert (and I am certainly not one) state that he has been dealing with clients whose sites have been penalised because of too many internal links on a page. The Matt Cutts videos talks about the merits of splitting up the links so you don't have too many on a page but so many sites are structured in a way that their menus will have 100s of links on a page anyway. So I am a bit confused because you can find people who swear both ways. Personally I dont see why having a menu structure that links to 100s of pages should be wrong. It is not exactly either 'gaming the system' (to use google's favourite bollox) nor providing 'a poor user experience' (to use their other one).

Yes, and also Matt said using a tag cloud as a lot of bloggers do should probably be no follow as it is not the "most efficient" way to send page rank. This is an example of what your talking about. Yet the highest ranking blog type sites in our industry have do follow tag clouds so pretty much do the opposite of what he says haha.

I had a lot of internal links, so I cut them down months ago, didn't matter. Anyway, Google likes a breadcrumb link structure.

Build the site or pages or navigation for the VISITOR, not the search engines or seo bots or tools.

As soon as you change a link structure or page based SOLELY on an seo tool you are no longer building for the visitor.

Now if you happen to run a tool and see where something it points out could be improved and also improve the visitor experience, then that tool helped you imensely.

Obviously, if you run an seo tool and it shows you a major mistake or flawed linking structure etc, then it would be logical to fix those errors.

Yea, the site is for visitors, but I was wondering if changing website in accordance with SEO tool will help me to find new readers and make my site more stable as the error will be fixed.
