Iran proposes death sentence for illegal online gambling

If the Iranian government has its way, online gambling and betting could be punishable by death sentence.

A new bill, drafted by the Vice President of the Judiciary and Legal Commission of the Iranian Parliament, calls for gambling crimes to be punishable by death over "corruption on Earth" charges.

From Iran HRM:

Hassan Norouzi, Vice chair of the Judiciary and Legal Commission, said: “Majlis deputies have recently presented a bill to the board of directors based on Articles 705-711 of the Fifth Book of the Islamic Punishment Law which deals with punishment of betting in the cyberspace.”

“The said bill considers tough punishments for the groups involved. If the activities of gamblers and those participating in cyber bets are done by groups and gangs, and if repeated, they will be arrested. Insistence on committing the felony and lack of remorse will be considered by judges as corruption on Earth which is punishable by death.”

Norouzi said: “For decisive implementation of this law, the Ministry of communications, the Ministry of Interior, the FATA Police, the Justice Department and the Judiciary have been obliged to undertake some measures.”

The death penalty?! Absolutely disgusting. This is justice to these sick and twisted people?

These guys are really insane. There's always rehabilitation, but not killing... Stay away from these 3rd world countries at all costs.

I dont think this should be that surprising coming from Iran, Consumption of alcohol (one glass) is punished by 80 lashes, but repeated offences may lead to death penalty, although rarely exercised

No, not so much insane people, but religious fanatics who force their idiotic Abrahamic religious beliefs upon an entire nation.

Islam is no better or worse than Christianity, both have some batshit crazy doctrines in their holy book, but most modern Christians just conveniently ignore theirs.

I don't see anyone being put to death, they say you would basically have to be completely belligerent if caught with an "Insistence on committing the felony and lack of remorse". I doubt if push came to shove anyone would take the death penalty based on the principle that gambling should be allowed in Iran.

What is more likely is a lot of people get imprisoned on this basis, which is still ridiculous but I think the death penalty part of it is to make it sound so bad that nobody even thinks of it over there.

A few months ago they killed several protesters one who was a well known MMA/Wrestler had the entire MMA community and Trump's admin try to save him. He was killed days later.

Iran is the least politically friendly place on Earth.

If the one you live in does not agree with your beliefs, go to another that better fits you.

Homogenizing everyone into some globalist conglomerate of culture is not going to work. Ever. Human Beings are too stubborn and I for one am glad for that.
