Default Issue with Long Links Not Working on Site

The affiliate links we are given can be quite long and I have recently found out that they are cut off after 60 characters on our website which makes me wonder if they are even working even though most of them do take you to the website. But one link I have is too long to even work at all and says something scary like mangled by affiliate when clicked on....eek!

So I was wondering if there is a way to shorten the links or something so that they work properly without taking out the tracking.

    Thanks

By far the best url shortener is: http://bit.ly/

I dont believe this will interupt most affiliate tracking however this would depend on how the particular link works.
If you can test it that would be best.

    Regards,
    Simon.

Can you post an example of one of these long links? Is it the ugly FullTilt link?

I run all my links through a php file that makes the link look better on page but does not remove tracking.

If Rick (Universal4) comes in here he will suggest Fastclick to handle your links.

What CMS are you using? Seems odd that a program will cut off links.

Are you sure the link is being pasted in correctly?

What I mean is, if it is being truncated when you copy it into the clipboard, it would already be truncated when it is placed in the website code.

Depending on where the link is when you copy it (into the clipboard) you may need to paste it into notepad first, then re-copy it back into the clipboard before pasting it into the site.

I agree with Chips, if you show us an example we could maybe help you figure it out better.

For example: This is the aff link for Everest Poker here http://sev4ifmxa.com/click/WEE6U2Fsd...vKPFMFevld8s=/ not sure why the heck it's so long and ugly and scary looking though... but I did indeed check to make sure that I copied and pasted this entire link into the download link section area in the site and I did.

But then, when I save the review, the Play Now button only shows this - http://sev4ifmxa.com/click/WEE6U2Fsd...B2srDJYNTS6sHn...

    Here is the page http://www.pokershark.com/everest-poker-0

I'm not a real expert and I don't know all the lingo for everything but hopefully I explained enough. If I'm going to run the links through a php file, I would need some advice on how to do that exactly. Also I will look into fastclick.

I really appreciate the help chips and universal

lol not even the entire link shows up here unless you look at the bottom and wait a few seconds for it to load when you hover over it.

Looks like it is an issue with Drupal? Perhaps it limits the length of links in there. May be an issue you can resolve in your settings for the CMS.

The info on using a php script can be found here: https://www.gpwa.org/forum/cloak-your-links-190325.html and a bit more info here: https://www.gpwa.org/forum/cloaking-...ighlight=cloak

Basically, you create a folder to house the php files to hold your affiliate link then on the review page, you link to it for the casino/pokeroom. So it wouild look like: http://example.com/go/thispokerroom.php

When the user clicks the link it goes to that file and sends them to the brand with your tag intact.

Oh thanks so much! I will look into doing that as soon as possible.

And thanks for the offer Rick. That's very generous of you! I think I will be able to figure it out though. It's always nice to know there are others nearby just in case.

If you use the method Chips suggests, be sure to edit the robots text file to exclude that particular folder.
