Seems to be that time of the year for KYC documents and requirements seem to be increasing with more docs required and forms to complete. Brutal ....

    Can you be more specific?

Who is asking for these docs? Affiliate programs? Banks? Crypto exchanges? 3rd party money intermediaries like Skrill, Paypal, Neteller?

What type of documentation are they asking for?

Pokerface, it’s only going to get worse, as our industry struggles with corrupt operators and more regulations being put into effect in the future.

The issue is a problem for players also.
Especially in the UK, these laws are being used not to protect punters, but as an excuse to make withdrawals more difficult.

I think the whole KYC process gives this perception of 'making withdrawals more difficult' and breeds mistrust with new players, most likely putting some off playing again and therefore killing downstream revenue for operators and affiliates alike.

Here's how it tends to go: new player signs up, plays happily with no issue, very little or no questions asked. Loses a bit maybe, no issue. Wins a bit maybe, no issue. Wins a bit and asks to withdraw and suddenly it's time for KYC which then creates the feeling of being stitched up.

Perhaps punters will get used to it over time and accept it's part of the process. Perhaps operators will build more of it into the front end of the customer journey, although I expect the marketers will be screaming that it suppresses conversion if so. One thing's for sure, if they did build it into the front end then fraud levels would undoubtedly reduce.

Once a person has proved they are who they are and passed KYC, that should be it. However, this industry seems to think (more often for nefarious reasons) that when a document supplied for KYC proof, expires, so too does the identity of the person.

If I open a bank account, I'm asked for 100 points of ID proof. Which amounts to 1 form of photo ID, a utility bill which proves my address, and a medicare card which is Gov., Issued.

Once they've been sighted, that it's KYC completed.

Driver's license expires, doesn't matter, I've already been KYC'd. End of story.

Casinos, affiliates program all want to dictate their own BS KYC rules. Reiterating, for mostly nefarious agendas.
