    Hello everyone,

I'm an affiliate manager at OptionsXO.
I'd love to have a drink with some affiliates out there,
and make some new friends over a few beers.

Hey All - Sorry I am late to the party - Quick clear up of teh Sunday/Monday thing

As you probably know Earls Court is being knocked down so we were on a waiting list to move to Olympia - The only availability for 2015 in the room that would fit us was the sun/mon before ICE or the Fri/Sat the following week after ICE (8 days later) - In 2016 as long as we are happy to not increase the size of the event we can move back to the Fri/Sat straight after ICE which is the current plan.

The good news is this hasn't changed (touch wood) adversely effected attendance - We have 40% more floor space than 2014 and are currently tracking to hit same registrations in just 24 hours so should hopefully smash attendee number targets...

    Should be FUN

Visiting such conferences is on my to-do list for years, but I've always let it pass because of the costs involved.

Can anyone please explain to me, is it just for booze and fun or is it actually good for your business? Don't get me wrong, I love booze and fun, but spending quite a decent amount of money on flights and hotels needs some justification imho

And if I decide to attend such an event, which one would be the best choice?

The two days of conference is business where you can walk around the conference and talk to affiliate managers who are exhibiting or even just walking the floor. There are some stands in the early arvo that start having booze and an open bar, but you're still there to talk shop. People don't just stop working at X time because the beers started coming out.
The networking parties are there in the evenings to give people something to do. Obviously if you're coming from out of town you don't know the place so it's much easier to hang out with people you "know" than to find something to do by yourself if you're traveling alone. You're not obliged to attend them if you don't want to.

IMO LAC is the best conference to go to. It is the biggest and it's very fast paced. From memory it also has the most programs there so you will get the opportunity to talk to as many aff managers as you can.

I guess affiliates will be able to tell you better than I can whether it's worth going for your business, but from an affiliate managers perspective I'd say it's worth it because you get to meet the people you're dealing with personally which IMO makes the relationship taken away that much better.

    My 2 cents.

Many thanks Renee for your reply. I fully understand the importance of networking and getting to know the people you're working with. Unfortunately each month I receive emails like: "Hi I'm your new AM and I'm looking forward to working with you. Can you please explain your business so we can improve it?" Of course (and fortunately) there are many exceptions. I really think it would be great to finally meet some AM's and forum members I only know by nickname for years.

    No probs at all.
If it makes you feel better, Celia and I are flying over from Australia. It takes us 24 hours to get there and flights are not cheap either. It's expensive for us, but it's worth it.

You'll get the affiliate managers who move around a lot, then you'll get the ones who don't (like me ).

Before you go, do a bit of research and decide who you want to speak to and make a list. That way you go in with a plan and you won't waste any time. Then if you do have spare time around your list you can walk around and choose others to talk to.
Best way is to go in with a plan.

If you happen to go, come say hi - we are at booth A5

Find a hotel deal here and get your overly cautious butt to London for some fun, booze and business.

There's no chance in hell one won't get a return on investment on any business conference, especially the gaming one, especially LAC, in both tangibles and intangibles.

I only do London - it's down the road from me and I feel one per year is plenty. Having said that I think if I was going to chose one without any kind of laziness bias, I'd still go for LAC based on what I've heard/seen.

It is worth it, but the first time you go it can be a little overwhelming and there's a danger you'll spend two days wandering around like a lost chicken. Try to arrange meetings with the programs you work the closest with, but leave yourself some free time as well.

The welcome drinks at the pre-reg are a nice place to meet other affs and get you into the swing of things, I'm sure there'll be a bunch of GPWA'ers there too.

If anyone is around on the 29th let me know. I'll be arriving early morning on my own and can't check into the hotel until the arvo so will need someone to walk around with me stinky off a 24 hour flight (unless the hotel is kind enough to let me shower in the gym) and to keep me awake.

I'm lots of fun, really. Especially when I'm delirious
