Speaking for myself I prefer to do a meeting where there is no loud music ,half naked people and we can actually have a decent conversation. My husband and I went to LAC in 2009 but we never even went to the 'conference ' we had 5 business meetings at nearby attractions with program managers then went on to Italy for a week Vacation. In 2010 we went again but we spent maybe 3 hours on the floor and then had our usual meetings and dinners.I am in a wheelchair and it is no fun being in a crowded room with asses stuck in your face not to mention the headaches to get a lift in or out of buildings. There are plenty more like us and many low key meetings going on while the young ones are doing their thing.Poor Alex the event planner has to manage them lol

LOL Judy I really was convinced that you liked it when my ass is in your face
Just kidding. The amount of smelly people at regular height is enough to turn me off. I can't even imagine what it must be like at crotch height

I do agree with Alex somewhat though. It does "seem" that it would be boring for others to hear about the business side of these things as it is strictly business during the day. After a very hard days work (and it really is a hard days work, especially harder for those of us who choose to walk around approaching people instead of having a booth where people come to us), it is nice to have a drink after and let the feet relax after standing and walking the whole day (sometimes the drink is just a diet coke btw), wind down and talk some **** with the people you've seen all day. Besides, if I don't do some talking ****, chances are that I will talk in my sleep all night and be worse for wear the next day anyway. I talk a LOT.

Sure - it might be boring to talk about this side with your friends and/or relatives who are not in the business. After all you don't want to hear about their mindless day of pushing paper around the office either ...'

But - I'd expect that on a forum like the GPWA which has been especially setup for discussion of THIS business - that the subject of the gambling business would actually be the main theme ... After all - that's what we manage to do in most of the threads here (outside the chatter box / fun diversions threads).

So if you go to a 3-day affiliate business conference ... then want to discuss it ... then TALK ABOUT THE BUSINESS BENEFITS!

Alex Pratt has gone some of this in a couple of other posts - highlighting some very interesting things he saw / learnt at conference. That shows some value for attending outside of "free drinks!".

    Wouldn't you say that's fair?

Of course! Although the affiliate managers generally don't tend to have time to go to those talks so there is not much of interest from us in that respect. I wish I had more to contribute to those discussions.

I did mention that I thought this conference was the best one I've been to in terms of business. Lots of new faces, lots of old faces, and lots of people I really wanted to talk to. Although because there were so many people there, and there is only one of me, it probably would have been beneficial to have an extra day of conference just to find the rest of the people. Believe it or not, 9/10 hours of talking to people goes far too quickly.

    LOL

If you sat down near me you might find it hard to get a word in edgeways. There wouldn't be an ass in your face though. It's not how I roll.

I'm with you Martyn. I learnt very quickly, and possibly the hard way, that I can't have the conference to the full potential if I stay out drinking till 4am, then get up and do a full day of meetings the next day on a hangover and 4 hours sleep. I am happy with dinner and a few drinks at the hotel bar or a gathering somewhere. Not to say I haven't enjoyed a few drinks and boogie on the dancefloor for the parties, but I do think everything should be in moderation.

I find the conferences great, especially for those of us who work from home. It is a great opportunity to socialise and meet our friends, colleagues and acquaintances in both a (semi) formal and relaxed atmosphere you can get from the conference and networking parties / dinners / hotel bar.

The conference venue was great this year and was probably one of my most successful shows. I don't think I managed to see everyone, but we exhibited this year, so I didn't pound the floor as I usually do.

Thanks for clarifying Alex on location for next year. I heard it was Excel as well, so glad we now know where it will be

As for the seminar talks, I do always try to pencil one or two into my schedule but for some reason I end up bumping into someone I know and never make them. Are they videoed at all? That would be great, so they could be shared online for those who didn't manage to get to them at the actual event?

    "See you in 2015"

It would be interesting for me to see who is working for which company - a lot can happen in one year.
