Default Ladbrokes reported to be in talks with Playtech re Merger!

Got this news in early this afternoon. Amazing if this is true. I wonder what MGS think of this, as Ladbrokes are probably their biggest operator.

UK newspaper The Telegraph reports that Ladbrokes is exploring the possibility of a potential GBP 2.2 billion merger with internet software provider, Playtech .

Ladbrokes is currently in separate discussions with 888 Holdings Plc on a potential GBP 240 million takeover bid.

The UK-based bookmaker has reportedly instructed investment banks Greenhill & UBS AG to explore a possible tie-up between the two companies which would transform Ladbrokes from a consumer-facing business, with more than 2,700 betting shops, to one that also supplies software & online games to the betting, casino & poker industries.

Will be interesting to see what the monopolies and mergers board have to say about this.

A good ten years ago when I was a manager of a Ladbrokkes Racing shop in England they tried to buy Corals and were so sure they would deal without an issue that we were all informed and marketing, branding etc was pushed through. Staff moved and empployed only for the deal to be stopped.

The best thing here is to wait for the confirmation of both companies. For sure, everyone would be looking forward for this merge.

Ladbrokes + PlayTech? That's really something great! Virtual gambling is evolving, isn't it?

Maybe this time merging would take effect as they see from the other gambling companies that merging of two companies nowadays brings lots of benefits to both parties. Some of its benefits is to form a much larger company as well as to attract more investors.

This looks like it could have some legs to it. Either that, or Hills are taking steps to ensure this does not happen.
