Default Latest pandemic lockdowns leading to another surge for online poker

With another string of pandemic-related lockdowns sweeping across Europe, online poker rooms are once again seeing increased traffic.

    From GamblingNews.com:

With online poker already surging in France, Spain and Portugal, by 30% in each market based on data by Pokerfuse, and up by 18% in Italy, Europe’s second lockdown is likely to send traffic flying up.

According to Pokerfuse, the first time around, the lockdown has had a positive impact on online poker, although it completely destroyed brick-and-mortar events, but led to some wholesome alternatives in its stead.
The first poker bonanza lasted between March and late-July, and it saw GGPoker and iPoker benefit the most with a reported 208% and 62% increase in poker activity. GGPoker’s phenomenal rise can be attributed to hosting the World Series of Poker, which had to move from Las Vegas to the digital frontier.

Surprisingly, established platform saw a modicum of increase over the period, and specifically PokerStars (7%), 888poker (2%) and Unibet (11%). Partypoker, though, registered a 30% uptick, the most of any established gambling brand.

According to GameIntel data distributed to Pokerfuse exclusively, online poker activity has started to pick up over the past several weeks. Peak global poker traffic at the time of posting had reached 15,600 concurrent players in cash games, GameIntel data revealed.

That's welcome news. But what about casinos and sports betting too? This is what we really need to see a boost for.

Hopefully, there will be better days ahead for our industry

Living in the US I doubt we go into lockdown until Joe takes office, and while this pandemic hurts many people it does certainly help us and if someone is going to benefit might as well be me instead of some Billionaire who doesn't need it!

Solid thread. Especially the billionaires who do not need the money, so the poor affiliates should get it.

Yes, we need the boost. I guess we should start to complain by governments like restaurant owners and get tax reliefs, subsidizes, the employees should get paid by government etc. Good idea.

It's business right? We all profit from a **** situation. People who gamble don't want to lose money. It's not like we offer much of value. Say like we sold something of value and took a cut. The buyer is happy we are happy. We are only happy when our "customers" are not.

I do see your point, taking enjoyment out of such a situation (death and misery) is bad. But open your eyes, there is plenty of death and misery in the gambling industry in the first place.

I'm sure there are many profiting out of the **** situation of the pandemic.

I'm sure since 2017 a lot of people have had their businesses ripped apart via the UKGC bullshit. It's life and life goes on. Life's not fair.

There are so many businesses, services and industries that have "benefited" of this terrible situation. Businesses and services have been forced to adjust and remodel their businesses which many will do well in the future. Unfortunately many businesses and individuals will also have suffered.

The benefits are not only financial but forced to work smarter preparing for the future.

Sometimes it's a struggle. Choices and decisions made by others, can, unfortunately, affect anyone's livelihood, at any time. And, while it may seem our industry is full of shady, dodgy, unethical gits, there are still honourable people, in it. Really, it's the same with life in general.

Over the past 20 years as a casino affiliate, I could have easily turned many a blind eye, to a flurry of less than ethical offers. Sure, what we do can affect others. But that mindset goes for the local pub owner. The guy at the corner shop (selling cigarettes). You can't be responsible for peoples "choices"... All you can do, is make sure your being honest and ethical.

At the end of the day, I've seen the scales-of-life balance the slate, many times.

Yes, there are so many businesses, services and industries that have "benefited" of this terrible situation. But unfortunately, there are so many corrupted governments that benefited from this situation. Some governments (most) just don't care about people, we are just a numbers for them. They (persons from governments, and persons who are their associates) make money selling face masks on triple prices, they are buying medical equipment without telling their own citizens how much it is paid, etc... Just makes me sad how the whole world went crazy!

C'mon. Humanity will not move anywhere, if we will keep talking bullshit e.g. how politicians are horrible, because they do not care about people etc (but my LSD visions indeed tell me that this is the point - not moving anywhere and things will just get repeated forever).

Of course politicians are the most ruthless psychopaths - even one level worse than small leeches like us, who benefit from pity of other people. Who else would want to do the job of politician? I am so happy I can stay anonymous, make money, live my private life, help to the few animals and people around me at the cost of tens of thousands of gamblers, who have ruined lives.

Politicians can not care about people, they must care about power. Politicians who do not care about power are no more politicians. It is like running a company and not to care about profit. The goal of politician is not compassion or help. They just amplify what the society wants. Any herd of people is a dangerous and stupid biological mass, whose members run towards their death and slowly realise that fact and from that comes their frustration and demands for politicians. Any leader who is running that herd really has other problems than to care about others. He needs to keep the power and for that he needs the money.

Either way - seriously - the worst people are not the always corrupted politicians. The worst are the people who are constantly complaining about them. Like if there was a chance for better world. There is no such a chance. The hope - the last item from box of Pandora - is the most cruel attribute of human life. People constantly hope for better environment, better politicians or they hope just for some stupid goal to be scored in completely useless game (now even without onlookers).

I have no problem to live in so called democracies. Because I am rich now I would prefer some autocratic cyberpunk new-feudalism, that is probably coming and it will be indeed the same sh1t generally. I will keep on living even in hardcore fascism.

But what I can really not stand is the constant whinging against the system, the politicians etc. Because it reminds me myself 20 years ago and it is always the worst. I used to be a homeless, doing nearly nothing (just to survive), but my head was full of stupid ideas, how the world has to be, how the rich and politicians are ruthless etc. I remember myself giving lesson to some older rich guy who was so stupid that he stopped me, while I was hitchhiking. I forgot his name, I would like to apologise to him for my incredible stupidity and un-politeness.

Life and world really is not that ****** simple. There is not black and white, there is just grey and even more grey. It is impossible to do anything that is just good. Any coin has 2 sides. For example my uncle is now maybe dying. I can help him. Should I do it? He is a thief and when I helped him in the past, he just went on cheating and hurting other people. Whatever I will do is wrong and that is life. It can not be somehow improved. It was always like that and always will be like that.

What we can do is just to calmly accept it and then doing something and accept the responsibility for our actions. I do not believe people who have full mouth of blaming others about this and that (like politicians or corrupted affiliate managers - who are way easy and obvious targets) - because those people somehow forgot to look into the mirror.

The game goes on exactly because the common people keep complaining, hoping, voting again for some new hope etc. After all - even this will never change; same story as gambling - people will always gamble. But I would like to have those people far away from me, because the havoc they produce is noisy and distracting. After all this world is completely beautiful. Who works hard does not have to listen to this bullshit I believe. And it is not about money. It is about the knowledge that we gain during the work.

So yes, there is the axiom: politicians are selfish and corrupted, UKGC is on the top totally retarded and we are the small sharks, who eat the fishes, who thought they have the luxury of just doing nothing and get bored. That is really the life. Homo homini lupus.

When you have some spare time or you are bored and don’t really know what to do.
I have no choice but to play poker.
