Hard to say about old sites, but for new domains (younger than 1 year) it still works good.

I can see a clear impact if I push constantly on one single page/post with at least one link a week. Not sure about current impact of generic links pointed to homepage. Whats your idea?

Yes, we are still pushing links hard and seeing positive impacts on our clients.

Maybe the method in how we build them has slightly changed and we have found new methods to make our backlinks more powerful but all in all it works.

Link building is very important! wouldn't let that out!

It's quite difficult to say what strategies are the most profitable but still you may try as much as possible.

Of course you need to make competitors research to analyze their backlink profile (try to use ahrefs alerts), also try media linkbuilding (infographics, ppt, pdf, podcast distribution).

As one of the variants try to search some relevant websites and buy banners links etc.

I was still most successful this year with qualitative backlinks. But I have little experience with numerous spam links or similar. I personally think the risk is too high - in my opinion it is not sustainable. The easiest way to get good backlinks is via guest posts. Everything else I find rather tedious and you have to be lucky to get a link.
