Good news on the prereg. See you all there.
I need to start to get organised for LAC now after a few setbacks. Let me know if you are going and wish to meet up and I'll get some proper canvassing done soon. I know you love it.
Cheers,

As bald idiot said, anytime should be fine, science museum and natural history museum are next too each other so you can do those at the same time then maybe head up around the Albert hall and into Hyde park, if it's a nice day (as in blue skies but freezing) will be v nice, alternatively head down high st ken for some shopping.... Also check out the Tate modern, it is literally across the millenium bridge right beside st Paul's where the main hotel is

Yeah, keep telling myself to get to tate modern seeing as it's so close to the main conference hotels and venue. Science and Natural History museums are always a decent way to spend an afternoon. British Museum is good for getting a close-up look at artefacts that we 'acquired' during days of empire!
Oh and re the start time for the welcome drinks - We are just in the process of confirming the sponsor so will have those details up ASAP

There's also the V&A across the road from the Science Museum - but that one bores me immensely. Theres a nice little article describing them each here if that helps you decide.
This is actually my 'hood (I live a 10 mins walk from the museums) so if you have any q's just shout. Couple of recommendations whilst you're there - there's an awesome place to get crepes on the left as you walk towards South Ken tube (main entrance, not the one leading to the tunnel). Or for beer and pub food there's a really nice local/not touristy pub hidden in a mews about 5 min walk from the museums: http://www.thequeensarmskensington.co.uk/

and seeing as the London Underground celebrated its 150th anniversary yesterday, some of you may get the opportunity to check out some of the finer sights that can get missed in rush hour...

seeing as we're online using computers there's a chance some of you may be interested in computing history.... The science museum has a special exhibition in place on the life and legacy of Alan Turing which will be on during LAC

I'm actually coming to London between 17th and 20th this month, and then again for the LAC.
During my first visit I'll be visiting the museums and everything, and during the second one you'll find me at the bar.
EDIT: Maybe I go check out the Shard, I hear it opens for public on Feb 1st.

Yeah, the shard is meant to be amazing.
Now, for my next, but probably not last, stupid question. On the friday, is there any sort of after party from the awards? We won't be attending then and will probably go out with some London friends but wondered if there was any sort of other conference-related do or other shenanigans?

At the moment there isn't but for the last few years it has been at The Grange St Pauls Hotel - As I say teh bar is 24/7 and we have every single room in the hotel bar 4 (I think) which are kept for corporate clients so it is pretty non stop in there for the three days.... The first year we were there and we took just 200 rooms we made there Q1 target on the bar.... They literally love us!
