Default Maltese Fallout and California Coalitions: APCW Perspectives for 14 August, 2015

The Malta Gaming Authority has made plans to
    "considerably updated" their gambling legislation,
but claim it has nothing to do with the recent
    online gambling arrests and seizures.
Meanwhile, a California coalition says Internet poker
    is not dead yet.

I'm out of the loop when it comes to gaming licenses.

As I understand it - Bet365 has a license from Gibraltar - and will retain it.

So why do the need an additional "class 2" license from Malta?
What additional benefit does this give them?

Anyone in the know able to give a summarised reason as to why Bet365 would want or need to license in 2 European jurisdictions ?

    Do they take UK players?
I'm not really savvy on the UK laws in terms of that but if so, perhaps Gib is not satisfactory for UK license?

Again, could be talking out my ass on this one. Just a quick thought.

The Only thing I can assume and I too could be talking out of my ass .. lol is that having both in place would simply allow them to operate more freely in a broader range of territories ?

Bet365 are a UK based and licensed company - based in Stoke and pay UK paxes - so are not affected by the POCT.

Bet365 employs over 2,000 people and is the largest private employer in the city of Stoke-on-Trent. For sports betting, Bet365 is licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission. Bet365's casino, games and poker operations are licensed and regulated by the Government of Gibraltar.

As I say - I'm stumped as to why extra licenses and payments are a good idea - clearly they are needed or they would be doing it - but it's got me confused. Is there ANYONE who can explain why this Malta license is needed?

I wondered about this as well... even while I was scripting the show. However, since I was always "just an affiliate" (and even that has been a while) I simply chalked it up to something that made since on the operational side that I just didn't understand fully.

Better minds than mine should chime in here.

I neither don't understand why. If you've got a license and you want a license that's more trustworthy to the public, than I understand, but in this case I don't understand.

Also not because Malta is starting to have an image problem, it's quite clear Malta is as much as a joke as every banana republic license. They will lose more and more ground next years.
