    Default Membership Concerns and Questions

    Greetings,

I just submitted my application for private membership a few minutes ago and I had a concern about the WHOIS matter.

I know you guys check up my name with the WHOIS data. The problem is when I submitted the sites, the WHOIS info was private. So just a few minutes ago I went to my domain registrar and put my public data back on just so you can verify that I own the sites. One site was already public anyways.

I just thought I would let the reviewers know this ahead of time.

Now, if the sites get accepted, is it legal for me to put my personal information back into private status again? Also, how likely is it for new members like myself to be included into the association?

    Thanks!
    Regards

    Welcome to the GPWA peppy.

Yes, it will be fine to change your information back afterwards. Actually, it would have been acceptable for you to keep the information private also. In that case we would have asked you to place a page on your site at a designated URL location as an alternate method of confirming your association with the site.

In terms of difficulty of becoming a member, our goal is for all reputable webmasters to be members of the association. We do have a minimum requirement of having been a webmaster for three months in order to try to make sure the folks that become members are serious and have at least a short track record under their belt.

But one of the major purposes here is for webmasters to help each other. Those of us that have been here for a while were new webmasters at one time, and know that one of the strengths of the GPWA is based on creating an environment where new webmasters that learn and grow from what they find here, and then in turn help other new webmasters by sharing their knowledge in the future.

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for the reply. I was actually thinking that I could easily put up some special page or put my name on the homepage. I can actually do this right now in a few seconds if you want me to. Basically in the application it said if my name wasn't on the WHOIS, I would need to provide documentation and I thought that sounded complicated so I just took the private status off.

I've also been a webmaster now for about 6 years as well. Even with all that experience, it seems that SEO can still be quite a pain and it's quite tough to rank and get big numbers of visitors.

Let me know what kind of pages I should add to my site. I can get these up in a few minutes if it is more convenient for you.

    Thanks
    Regards

GPWA Nancy is the person on our staff that oversees the membership application process, so she will let you know in due course what she needs as necessary. You can always pm her for status of your application, and please feel free to do that if you want to know where things stand. I will warn you though that the work of application processing does take a little time, so be patient with her.

    Hi peppy

    Welcome to the forums!

While you're waiting for Nancy to process your application, why don't you post your site url in the appropriate forum so we can give you some pointers. You'll find we're a friendly crew but sometimes we are brutally honest as well.

Bottom line: Through our advice and support, we will help you grow as a webmaster.

    Hello again,

I was wondering when I could become a private member so I could participate in the private link exchange forums. I believe I last applied some time last January.

    Thanks
    Best
