    Default MGM suing sites for trademark infringement

    Major land-based casino operator MGM Resorts International has filed a suit in the U.S. District Court in Las Vegas against four individuals and two companies over websites owned that contain the hotel names of some of its most famous properties. The sites are as follows (via Gambling911):

    mandalaybayonlinepoker.com

    ariapoker.com

    This is no surprise.

    I also predict that there will be many more suits such as this in the coming year....

    I also look for more online brands to demand the domains of those using their brands on their affiliate sites....

    Most of that seems to make sense. Sites squatting on brand names of big corporates should not expect to survive - they have the money and the resources to protect their brand.

    I've got to say that "ariapoker" and "ecaliburpoker" did not immediately jump at me as trading off the hotel brand - as they all have prior usage as words with different meanings - but maybe that just shows that I've never been to Vegas.

    Yes indeed, the more interest Vegas has online, the more they will be combing through the internet for anything they feel infringes.

    none of the sites are up and running. Surprised they didnt just move of shore and say FU to MGM.

    maybe the excaliber and luxor ones might look a bit harsh as they aren't exclusive to the MGM group, but how someone thought they'd get away with mandalaybayonlinepoker is beyond me lol

    Ha. I have a few MGM domains. I knew it was probably a waste to buy them, but with the $11 was worth the risk. They can have them.
