I thought about that but then decided it was better to be understood by people who understand English than not be understood by anyone. I've never heard of the word skrill before and am pretty sure not many people of any language have either.

As an avid lover of old school hip hop, I have to go against the crowd on this one, purely on the fact that they are giving a nod to one of the underappreciated legends of west coast hip hop, E40.

E40 is famous for coining an immeasureable number of slang terms, including "for sheezy" "you feel me?" and it's amazing, though slight awkward derrivitive, "you smell me?"

Skrill doesn't sounds good for me. It sounds like a greedy one and I hate it.

I originally thought the rumors where a great viral campaign to get people talking about MoneyBookers. I've recently been to the MoneyBookers site and saw clear indications that they are indeed changing their name. Amazing the branding efforts they are throwing away. Amazing.

Buyonaut, I think the marketing genius probably just looked for different words in different languages and slang that can be representative of "money".

I have to agree with Adrian, I'm sure they could not have had more negative press than positive to make it worth it to lose out on years of branding efforts.

I'd like to hear a brief synopsis of that marketing strategy

Hm, I actually like that new brand. It's shorter, and I hope they will stop their spammy practice with the new brand. And the best thing, I'm a lucky owner of http://www.skrillcasinos.com domain

I don't know if it is worldwide, but in the UK we have a short-term loans site called "Wonga" which has a serious advertising budget behind it and is all over satellite TV and MSN - well branded too IMO.

Perhaps some clever marketing-exec has seen how well wonga is doing and thought he would take a trip to Mr thesaurus.

Wonga is a far softer sounding term and evokes a feeling of cheeky-chappy.

Skrill sounds like someone scratching their fingers down a blackboard and evokes a feeling a wisened old crone.

I had a page written for moneybookers casinos but instead changed it to skrill casinos. This makes me realize the potential to have pages isolated on my sites which is a headache.

I think skrill is going to look better to Germans or Italians than moneybookers

They won't do US players for gambling until they decide to change their laws
