    Default More mods or admins

This place is teaming with spam most days at the minute and it really is getting tedious wading through it, especially when there is no one online to delete it, i.e GMT mornings and early afternoon when it's still sleep time in Yank land.

I purpose getting 2-3-4 new mods from all different time zones so someone can nip it in the arse straight away instead of it slowing growing.

Before anyone says anything I don't want to do and wouldn't do it if asked but I'm sure some on here would like to and it would make the board a lot better IMHO

Noticed this as well. I don't mind putting myself forward as a mod. Company car included?

"Thanks, I found this post very useful. Want to buy a link?"

No seriously, I 100% agree and providing I do not need to become a private member (which I'm not), and providing I can continue to post in the manner that I do (without the need to suddenly hold myself to higher standards than I already do) I'd be willing to throw my time & effort in the hat. I'm not situated in the UK but for the most part, I keep UK hours.

As it stands right now, my morning routine consists of checking stats from my sites, reading the tabloids over coffee, checking GPWA, hitting "report spam" button (in that exact order).

Funny, all this talk of spam and yet only one single spam report was filed today.

Yes there are days when spam is a little heavier than others, but it is taken care of, fairly swiftly and compared to other forums even HALF this size with less posting activity, we do a pretty good job here.

I put one spam report in today and that was because I'm getting sick and tired of doing it, the same poster did about 5 spam posts, then just to really improve the forum another person (that i reported for spam last week) started, so I thought 'sod it' especially as there was no comment on my above suggestion

There must have been more than one report then, as I filed one too. I filed a single report because the same person went to town on multiple threads.

Well if the person you are referring to is the one I dealt with a bit ago, they have been warned and future spam will cause their banning.

There was actually a second one I caught today that had been a member for a while, but it was only after yesterday/todays posts that the trend was noticed. It too has been taken care of.

The spam reports can and do help, but not every single post reported is considered spam.

Often spam reports are filed against those selling or buying links, and we have always taken a strong stand against spam, but we have also recently become a little more agressive in handing out warnings for copy and pasted postings, one line BS type posts to gain the sig links, as well as shilling. Another area that tends to draw the spammers is the forex section.

Depending on each individual situation, we often try and suggest to the poster that their posts will not be tolerated, and there are many times where we will take a thread subject and turn it into real discussions that can benefit the community. Sure this is not always 100%, but it does work some.

One person recently suggested we searching for the username etc on other forums. This is not always reasonable since some usernames are fairly common, but we are members of Stop Forum Spam and use their database, as well as file reports to it. This can be tricky at times since in one particular scenario we had a new affiliate manager that was unable to post since they had used a common username that had been banned at SFS although neither the ip nor the email had been.

We want everyone to know that the spam reports are very valuable to us, and encourage you to use them as it helps us spot trends or possible problem posters faster so that we can act.

We try to stay as fair as we possibly can when dealing with all posts, and we do NOT have a policy to ban first and ask questions later, except in blatant cases, and we also understand that what may appear blatant to one is not always the case to others.

I don't understand what you lot have against sorting spam out, the crap we had to endure this morning (UK GMT) was pathetic.

Some div just posting a load of rubbish like "thanks for the great post" or "thanks for the info". It even looked like it was a bot autoposting or something, it was that bad

I don't want to like Im telling you what to do but you want me to keep reporting spam which takes all morning to get sorted as you lot are all in bed (like I would expect), when the easiest thing to do would give some sensible posters the power to delete the spam

because we will just get the same tomorrow, then the next day, then the next day

a lot of the users will just use the 'new posts' feature as it makes the forum easier to use, not fun when it is just full of spam each morning.

Out of interest, what time was all the crap removed today? And Im not just talking about the rubbish I reported, the dribble that followed?

I noticed something with a pay per download service. It looked like someone rush to get 10 posts in to advertise. No Complaints, You Are A Good Mod!

I wanted to chime in here.

First of all, thank you to everyone who reports the forum spam, it is your reporting that helps us go after the spammers. I encourage everyone to report spam when you come across it.

We strive to keep the forum as clean as we can; however, it is impossible to stop all spam and to act on a report immediately 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Sometimes it takes us a few hours to get it down, sorry about the inconvenience it may cause. The moderators strive to keep the spam down and will continue to make it a priority. We will look into increasing the number of forum moderators, thank you for your suggestions and sharing your thoughts.

I know @bookies. It wasnt directed at you or anyone. I just wanted to say something about the weird pay per download thread.

Also there seems to be a lot of new members with generic forum comments for SEO that are not 100% related to the topic ( although I am guilty of this, sometimes I post at 1AM).

I have only used the report spam button once and that was because someone was talking about using blackhat seo software.

I agree with thebookiesoffers, you do need an English time keeping moderator. I generally use the New Posts link, and when it is full of spam, it's annoying. Ok, it's not the end of the world, and I'll still read here, but it's a simple problem to control.
I think you should let thebookiesoffers be a moderator, and if he goes power crazy, just take the privilege away.
