Default More Poles take gambling habits online

A report in Polish newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna says online gambling in Poland has risen more than 20 percent since last year, despite the fact of its supposed illegality. Gambling Web sites can still be accessed in Poland, but the government may look to prosecute online gamblers, according to the article.

    From the Warsaw Business Journal:

Poles spent zł.3.2 billion on online gambling sites in 2009, which was 50 percent more than in highstreet casinos and betting shops.

The gambling site PokerStars.pl now advertises throughout Poland on local cable stations in defiance of the act passed in October 2009 that not only outlawed online gambling but also its advertising.

The Polish government can do nothing at present because PokerStars.pl and other similar sites are registered abroad.

Prohibitions failure is not limited to the United States.

    Prohibition does NOT work anywhere.

Only Kentucky apparently has jurisdiction on the the entire Internet...

    News:

    http://www.rmf24.pl/fakty/polska/new...jmu,nId,305443

    translate google:

In mid-December, "online gaming" back to the Sejm

Approximately 15 December to the Sejm has affected the organization of the controversial draft prohibits online gaming and betting bookmaker. The document has been revised twice. A year ago, was supposed to be a flagship project team PO torn gambling scandal.
First, the project has been criticized by the European Commission and sent to the Polish for improvement. Is likely to be adopted if this time will return from Brussels, without further amendments. It is very possible because of the radical slogans of Prime Minister Donald Tusk about blocking the Internet, little has been.

The government had to give in and change the strategy against online gambling: do not rise to such the index of banned sites. Tusk's Cabinet, instead of blocking access to online poker, now wants to prosecute sitting at the computer.
After this much discussion, there is no intention of blocking servers betting. We will focus on this to identify persons who act illegally after the transfers made - acknowledges the head of Customs Minister Jacek Kapica.
Nothing came of the idea of the ban on gambling advertising. The only "positive" result is a gambling scandal less gaming machines.

Yeah right, polish government can do nothing. So why don't they just give up on blocking those sites and let them totally into regulations and see them as an addition into their tax revenue collection.

I think the Polish government cannot totally block all online gambling sites and it's because a lot of online casinos are registered in other countries that's why they cannot do something about it. A certain country doesn't have any right to block or to do something against other countries businesses.

Are the Poles scared of the new ****** law that's about to be passed?

I am Polish and I can tell you they block nothing at the moment and they can do nothing as well. However all major advertisers have moved out of the mainstream media, that is a fact.

Blocking those casino site wont be helpful to the Polish government. Instead, helping them and as AdrienneJay says, they can charge those sites for some tax in addition to their revenue collection. Or having such regulated laws to make those casino site to be legal can be a relief for the government.

They can't give it up, not unless the casinos on the way understands what they're shouting, "Give us a portion of the pie, we're envious of your possible huge online gambling market share".
